The Mojave vs Rubicon question always makes me scratch my head.

"Ive done all my research and I definitely need a Rubicon or a Mojave for the hard GNAR I hit when I'm OFFROADING to the mall"

If you're actually doing the things you're say you're doing and you really need those extra things that the packages offer then why do you need help deciding?

How the hell are we supposed to know where you're gonna go?

Bro do you climb rocks and ride forest roads slowly or do you rip through the desert and go dune bombing quickly?

Its literally that simple.
I'm with you!!

Don't know why we don't have this discussion over 5" radio vs 8", or automatic climate controls vs manual climate controls.

Read the original post; it's that simple, bruh. Just honest people asking for advice, no need to be agro, lol.

I was in the same boat. I first test drove a Mojave and since orange is my favorite color I really loved the Mojave orange accents. With Rubicon your really stuck with red since dash and seat sticking is red. Where I live anyways they were both the exact same price. Its my understanding with Mojave you get bigger FOX shocks, a stronger re-enforced frame. Since I don't plan on jumping my truck I liked the package on the Rubicon a lot more. Two lockers, a sway bar disconnect for more front axle articulation a crawler transfer case and still decent Fox Shocks. I just feel for the $$ you get more bang for your buck with Rubicon.
UNLESS you are the type that wants to drive fast off road than Mojave is the answer.

All Rubicons don't have the red dash. Mine does not. It has to do with external color (gecko, nacho, Punkn don't have it). I think I read that tan leather doesn't get it either, regardless of external color. My dash is grey like the other trims, but more matte.

No it not that simple. Here you have a newcomer asking some straight forward questions.
Rubicon and Mojave are very closely priced.
So he is asking for owners opinions on pro vs cons.

Responses like yours can come off a bit shitty.
If you don’t like the thread….move on.
Chill dude.?

See this is where newbies can get confused.
Some people equate the Mojave just as a dune racer and not an off-roader capable multi purpose 4WD.
The trade off in actual capability of each model differs little. Each just excels at different levels.
Now determining how much you are actually in those situations where the “other” model would have been advantageous vs your daily driving comfort could help in the decision.
Or just plain effing confuse you more.?

Diesel rubicon. For 3000lbs you will be really happy filling up at the pump while you tow.

They look great. They sound special.

With my rpod attached I avg about 17.2mpg on 35” tires with a 2” Mopar lift.

But it’s diesel which comes with all the fun EPA bullshit.

Compared to my 4.0L Tacoma, I get double very close to double the mpg while towing. (That was lifted too)

But it will cost you 2-3 weddings….

We recently bought a 4xe for the wife and they wouldnt budge off msrp at all unless we wanted to order.
I'm not a frequent vehicle buyer and I thought a factory order was way too borgoisé, but I will likely never buy another vehicle any other way.
Pros:
Deep discounts.
Exactly what you want.
Nothing you don't want.
Cons:
6-12 week wait.

You can add a winch-ready bumper to a Mojave, but in some cases the skid plate will need to be trimmed slightly. I'm running a Paramount Guardian mid-width with a Warn 10k winch. Had to grind off about 1/4" from the skid corners. Did drop the front end about 1/2" though.
for those interested. This is my installed set up plug and play no trimming

Apex Arcus bumper
Apex Bandlands 12000 winch. Still in the field if I wanna add the bull bar or not

which I use as my daily driver, primarily; however, it is also our adventuring vehicle to do off and on grid camping with our teardrop trailer, which weighs approx 3,000lbs fully loaded. We head out about once a month, and now that our son is a little bit older, we want to do more off the beaten path camping/overlanding in and out of state.
Based on your question and your use of the vehicle [wisely added]---the Mojave makes the most sense.

You're towing a teardrop trailer and bringing your young son---in other words, odds are pretty great that you aren't going to be taking a weekend/week off without the wife and kid to do a trail that requires a Rubicon.

If the grandparents take the kid for a weekend and you want to go camping with the wife alone---you're still limited by the trailer. The Mojave has more than enough off road capability to do most of the Badge of Honor trails bone stock---so off the beaten track once a month with a teardrop trailer doesn't come close to requiring a Rubicon.

Let's face it, the majority of the time is going to be daily driving the truck---since the price is the same why would you purposely choose the rougher riding vehicle that is built and designed for rock crawling? Rock crawling is not what you do according to you.

IF you are worried about the price of gas and want the enormous torque then the Rubicon Diesel makes the most sense---and the added cost should just be considered as you first modification. But the added weight and tendency to bottom out on almost anything sure sounds like an even rougher ride than a regular Rubi.

I absolutely agree with the others---if you want a discount then build your truck exactly the way you want it [again consider the options you chose as your first personally designed modifications]. Using that thought pattern I ended up with a damn near fully optioned Mojave that oh by the way is not only rolled into the loan cost but is factory warranted.

My closest dealer here in MO would only give me the factory invoice price for a custom order so I went with Tri-City in NC [4%---5% if I decide on their financing]. Gupton may have been cheaper [1%] and closer but I want the adventure of slowly working my way west [no interstates at all] and visiting Marine buddies along the way.

Really interested in your final decision.

Both world class (Factory-stock that is) imo...Priced about the same (more or less)...Both can do what the other does, but each does some stuff better than the other...

I've said and so have many others, if you like more of the rock crawling, and hey watch some vid, they are truly amazing what can be done with a Rubi, and that is the answer...They are optimized for such things while still providing plenty of functions for any kind of dirt, and as a general mid-size utility truck

If you like maybe faster driving via challanging dirt/sand roads or just the open desert, Mojave is the ticket. They are optimized as such, but still providing plenty of function which a Rubi can do (and truck utility of course too).

The key determinents then for your decision should be maybe, your goals/desires in the dirt, your access to topologies which facilitate those goals, and perhaps even your basic personlity (e.g., although I would enjoy (some) rock-crawling I doubt I have the patience :) to do too much of it. I want to drive faster - just my taste)...

Are you a Baja 1000 type or the SuperCrawl Rock Climbing Competition type - meaning what gets you more "excited" and holds your attention (more).

Only you can decide but perhaps this is the secret-sauce ;) to guide your decision.

Thank you for pointing that out after re-reading my post. I don't want people to think that the Mojave is strictly a dune racer and not off road capable. Quite the opposite, I would argue that in a class of truck with a rear locker only like (Tacoma TRD off Road, Nissan, and Ranger ) that the Mojave is much more capable since it still has a straight axle front end for articulation.
That being said, there has been videos posted where they tested Rubicon vs Mojave off road in normal 4 wheel drive conditions (not rock crawling or flying through the desert) and the Rubicon was able to "do more" and it does that for the same amount of money.

I have the same bumper with Bull bar on my Mojave. Fit perfectly.
