Had a list of seemingly trivial issues so I scheduled service and dropped it off yesterday. Talked to the service dept today, they said there’s something wrong with a cam in the engine and they have to take the entire engine apart to diagnose and fix it. The thing is 2 years old and I have had the dealership maintain it perfectly. I’m irritated, but now I’m also without a vehicle, and the dealership does not do loaners. Can I call Jeep and get them to give me a loaner? I have no idea how long it will take to repair, but at least another 4-5 days. It’s on the dealership’s hot list and they’ll give me $44k for it (paid $43k). Is it worth keeping? Should I trust this vehicle any longer?

If you’ll make $$, seems a no brainer. Buy another at below invoice and carry on.

Seems the cams and engine ticks are popping up more on the 3.6l.

(Bearing in mind that Internet forums seem to draw people with issues making it seems like something is a huge problem)

From what I understand Jeep dealers choose their own loaner policies so some don't have any, some only loan if you bought it at that location, etc.

I would say if it's stock take the money and get another one. I got an offer on mine in the mail that I could only laugh at.

Make sure the what you paid is actually what you paid at the bottom line of your sales invoice. A lot of people just talk the agreed upon price and you'll be paying those taxes and fees all over again.

The no loaner thing for warranty work got under my skin also. I had a 2014 JK that had the cracked head issue seen in the early pentastar motors. It took a month to get it back and I had the same thoughts of trading as you. It actually ran better than ever when I got it back and felt bullet proof. It may be worth trading if you always wish you had gotten a different one or think you will always feel like it is a ticking time bomb once you get it back. It will most likely be fine when you get it back.

I now have a 2020 gladiator made late 2019 that has ran great after I quit letting the dealer do oil changes. They always put 6 quarts of oil in like the JK instead of 5 quarts like the manual states. I no longer get the start stop not available and random misfire codes I did when it was over filled.

Do you own it out right or how much is left on the note? This is as much an emotional decision as it is a financial one. Crunch the numbers, find what you can live with and proceed. Sorry bud.

At the same time? What if they just fix it and you have no more issues?

If you keep it…tell them to give you another 100k warranty on the powertrain.

I own it outright. Don’t really want a car payment now though. Do you think it will be as good as new when it’s fixed and worth keeping?

just rent a car on your own and move on with your day. The rental cost will be less then going through all the bs of selling and buying something new. If the dealer wants to give you 44k that means they can sell it for 50k. Clearly they have an angle to make money off your in convenience.

Get the cheapest rental car offered and just move on. Don't forget Uber exists too.

See if you can get FCA to offer a free 5 yr extended warranty to cover future issues related to the cam failure.

Your not going to get your vehicle back anytime soon… imo… parts are horrible to get right now… sell it and get something else
