Towed 684 miles round trip this weekend, Dallas to Amarillo . 21’ Cherokee wolf pup black label, about 3400 lbs. husky centerline weight distribution, Curt wireless brake controller. Sport s max tow auto trans, 35” KO2’s, mopar 2” lift. Had 23 mph winds there and back as well as rain. Averaged 9 mpg. Truck was very stable, even in the high winds. Stayed in 5th gear most the way though.

Just towed my 4,700 lb 25’ Flagstaff with my Rubicon on 2.5” EVO lift and 35” Nitto Trail Grapplers through the Shenandoah mountains. Was my first tow since the lift. Towed great. Super stable and got 10-11 mpg. Overall I am happy with towing capability.

I got between 10-13 mpg towing depending on speed. The axle was rated to go 65mph, so if I drove at 65 (or even 70? I forget) I would get worse mpg due to all the air drag. I got closer to 13 when going on county roads keeping the speed around 55mph. Obviously hills and such impacted the mpg too. I say “I got” because I sold the camper this spring after buying a permanent/seasonal campsite in late fall. Now the Gladiator just tows the family and a ton of cargo to and from the campsite as we have been doing a lot of projects at the campsite.

yes that’s dry and I carried two kayaks, 4 bikes and all our gear for a long weekend. The Jeep did great! And yes there are a number of decent hills out there.

Trailer and dry pine. Probably 5000lbs. Last time I weighed it not as full was 4500lbs. Can feel it on hills. Trans temp came up to 95 deg C from 91.

With 37s, a V8 would be just the ticket!

You made this joke a long time ago, but you are 100% correct. With more power (V8), the JT would be an adequate tow vehicle with only 4.10 gears and Running 37” tires. Mord power = less strain, which equals greater towing capabilities.

***Estimating*** A 6.4 Hemi JTR (with appropriate frame strengthening), should be rated to tow up to 10K lbs. without issue.

Just towed my 4200lb Caravel Airstream 22', wife and dog on a 300 mile test run. Mostly flat highway at 60-65mph, on my 35" BFG KO2s got about 13-14mpg. Towed nicely, plenty of power, don't have my antisway/WD hitch installed yet, so did experience sway a couple times.

Getting everything dialed in for my cross country 9000+ mile RV trip next month.

That’s a sweet trailer! We’re towing up to Colorado in a couple weeks as well to spend some time in Rocky Mountain National Park. I’ll report back with our experience when we get back to Texas.
