So, like others have said, you've reduced your towing ability, yes ability, by going to a larger tire therefore negating any benefit from the slightly taller gear, the 4.1, than most of us have in non MaxTow, Rubicon, or Mojave with our 3.73 gearing.
Technically it's shorter gears when going to a lower gear ratio, higher number. As in 4.88 gears are shorter than 3.73 gears.

Not to confuse anybody, but the diesels come with 3.73 gears no matter the trim package. I wish my diesel Rubicon got the 4.10s like gas Rubicons.

2020 Sport with Max tow. Mopar lift and 35x12x17 Toyo open country AT. Trailer is Coachmen Apex 245BHS 4800 lbs dry. Dealer sold me a blue ox weight distribution hitch with it. Tows really well 60mph or less, not so much on the interstate. I’m wondering if smaller tires would help with interstate speed.

You could always regear. Lower gears won't help with stopping and such, but will help with the pulling part.

2023 Mojave, stock except for bumper and winch

8 mpg average at 60 mph lol.
I get between 12 and 13 MPG towing my 5,100 lb (with all we want or need) 27' Vantage Sonic SN220VRB.

Again, stone stock Overland. Never see 8th when towing but 7th at 2,100 RPMs at 65 MPH.

In my opinion, all the Jeeps with factory 33's should have came with 4.88's, but no one asked me, so they have 4.10's just like a Max Tow on 29's lol.

Sure, then you'd be pulling over giant oak trees, and yanking buildings off their foundations. You got plenty of grunt. ;)

Yes, there is plenty of grunt, but 4.10s would of been just about perfect for 37s. That or maybe 4.27s, since there aren't any 4.27s yet, probably won't ever be.

We just picked up a 21ft Hybrid camper. He gave me a WDH but I need to install it. Towed it home 30 something miles with no real issues. I do think airbags are in the future as well as the WDH. Then a brake controller. My wife already has a Pinterest save page going and watching Insta for remodel ideas...lol (I'd post a pic. But for some reason they never load on my phone)

Brake controller first. No way I'd tow that, even home, without. It's also the law in most places. Sorry, but you really are taking risks and put the cart ahead of the horse by miles.

I agree. I’d maybe tow my 2,200lb 12ft RTT trailer, empty only, locally without a brake controller, but I never did. A 21’ trailer behind a gladiator needs brakes as an absolute requirement. Most camper sales places won’t even let you leave the dealership without brakes. Just get an Echo, @Advntrbound. It’ll be “installed” in 10 minutes, including profile setups.

Yeah, legit camper sales won't let you leave if not legal. And that needs brakes. They can get tangled legally. Bet it was a private sale. "Gave him a wdh" is sort of a tell.
Get into sway or emergency and you are screwed.

Please for the sake of people who share the roads - brake controller first! Otherwise you may be disasterbound.

Over on a forum for the camper brand the wife and I have, someone posted about how a trip was almost ruined when their brake controller bought the farm. Since then, they travel with two.

I moved our controller (Tekonsha Prodigy P3) from under the dash to on top of the dash and had to make an extension for it, which I thought wasn't working. Discussed with the wife, we picked up a Curt Echo then found out why my extension didn't seem to be good (stupid diode on one of the stupid wires)

So, now, we travel with the Curt as a backup controller in case we ever do have a problem with the Tekonsha.

And yes, @Advntrbound , get a brake controller ASAP, before anything else, and take the time to get it set up right (we nearly wound up in a wreck not long after getting our camper because we didn't have the controller set right.)
