I have 2023 JTSS with sad stock road tires - 245/75R17. Planning to take advantage of current MOPAR tire special and get 285/70R17. I called local Jeep dealership and the guy told me that the 285/70R17 would not fit under the Jeep, especially if I used a bigger aftermarket wheel. He thought the "claw" holding up the tire wouldn't work. I'm planning to go with 5 tires and wheels. Questions:
1. Will the new spare fit in the spare tire location with larger tire and wheel? Would I need a different "claw" to hold the tire in place? Any chance of "claw" damaging new wheel?
2. I plan to do a 5 tire rotation so I'll need to add a TPMS. Do I get a MOPAR TPMS or will something aftermarket work? Any hiccups with sensing the spare tire?

TIA!

I find the first claim about the spare not fitting highly suspect. The majority of the community seems to agree that you can get a 35" tire under there, and some 37" depending on brand and PSI. I wouldn't worry about the spare mounting whatsoever. The claw or whatever the hell it's called just touches the back of the wheel (you hang it face-up), so there's nothing that's going to get damaged.

TPMS brand really doesn't make a difference, just make sure you pay attention to what you buy. The build date of your Gladiator will determine if you buy one version of the TPMS or another. The cutoff date is in 2020 though, so make sure you get the ones that say for build dates after June 2020 (or whatever the date is).

Also, for what it's worth, you could probably find some Rubicon takeoffs on Facebook Marketplace for way cheaper than whatever the stealership is going to charge you for those tires. Tons of Jeepers in FL to buy from. :)

I fit 295/70s under no problem. Basically a 35. I do 5 tire rotations as well and have a matching stock spare.
Getting aftermarket wheels soon also will have a matching spare. The claw you speak of should fit any bore in a wheel at 71.50 mm I slide that piece in and out on my stock wheel opening and it's pretty tight but angles in fine without damaging the wheel

Thanks guys! I thought I should be fine with spare fitment. I read several posts on here of larger tires being fine but wanted to personally ask. I'll also make sure I get the correct year of TPMS since my JTSS is a 2023. I'm heading to the new local 4 Wheel Parts on Saturday to find out more about leveling kits. Wish me luck...!

The larger tire will fit just fine. The "claw" goes through the hole in the middle, which is sized for the hub. So they are all the same size.

Bottom line no issues.

I do have some other suggestions though.

1) give up on the 5 tire rotation. The wheel and tire sit in a hellish environment of constantly being pelted with rocks salt, sand, etc. I took my spare down this past summer when I upgraded to 35s. It was only 7 months old at that point and there was rust and corrosion on it.

by the way, the 35 fit fine up in there.

2) Take offs are where it's at. Pennies on the dollar. I've seen full sets of 5 JL Rubicon wheels / tires/tpms sensors on jlwrang1er.c0m for 1600

I got a set of 5 Xtreme Recon wheels/tires/tpms with 500 miles on them for $3000 and sold the 5th for $500. So 2500 for the XR wheels and 4 new 35" K02 tires. I've seen them cheaper than I got them for also.

As everyone else said - get a TPMS for the correct year truck (mid 2021 and up I believe), the spare tire hanger works fine with an aftermarket wheel (hang it face up), and you can cram up to a 37" tire in that space. Actually when my buddy bought his new Gladiator they put his old 37s on it before he even left with the truck AND they stuffed the spare into the spare location. Just gotta have the right dealer lol.

Discount wants to install my spare backwards (face down). Does that work ok?
Unless I am missing something, face up requires less cranking to raise or lower the spare. More importantly, face up protects the surface of the rim/wheel you see when it’s mounted from rock chips and scratches while it sits under the body.

Yes, face up protects the visible side better, but I install my spare face down so I can check and adjust tire pressure periodically. Since the larger size tires result in a very heavy tire/wheel combination, I also carry a creeper to drop it onto, assuming I am on a hard surface when I need it.

I am adding in a 5th wheel/tire as a spare also. On the tpms, I have a build date of 7-20. Could anyone point me in the right direction for an OEM TPMS? Thank you.

Allmoparparts.com. When I did new wheels and tires (five), I sourced the TPMS from them. They’ll verify which TPMS you need via your VIN.

For added security, I run a chain around the crossmember and through two holes in the wheel.

Good luck! I'll be right behind you. Looking towards 35's for the Rubicon..... Probably with a Mopar 2" lift - but looking at options that won't nuke my warranty.
