Sport Max tow battery size 48 or 94

With the max tow, you get the larger alternator and was wondering if the battery is the larger group 94 or the standard group 48? Mine is 4.5 years old and its starting to fail.

I know all I have to do is pull it out to see the size (battery blanket wont let me see the sticker and group size without pulling the battery out) and I'd like to order it and get it to the house as I don't have a spare vehicle for the next 2 days as the wife has to work and I want to get it done tomorrow.

I got 94R for my Max Tow. I didn’t even know there were different sizes across the JT platform.

Edit: I will be going with the EverStart from Walmart next time. Optima has been fine but the price is stupid.

Thank you. Was there a spacer you had to pull out to accommodate the extra 1 7/16 larger length with the 94? Sounds like base models get a 48 but rubicon and others get the larger 94. At least that's what I'm finding out.

Hmm. Maybe, I honestly don’t remember. I will say that I remember fighting a bit to get the new battery in place. It’s nice and snug now. I can get a picture tomorrow for you (remind me though ha).

The 94R is the largest size the tray is designed to accept. If the truck came with the smaller battery, there is a spacer that is not installed when upgrading to the larger capacity battery.

Here’s my battery area. Only things in there are the battery and this little bracket with the hex bolt to hold it in place (closest to passenger side). The battery is pretty much touching all edges otherwise.

The spacer they are talking about is at the front and there is perhaps 1.5-2” of space between battery and front of battery tray if you have the smaller. There are a couple options that trigger a larger battery. Get the bigger one no matter what you have!….Jack

This is the OEM battery for a 2020 Sport S Max-Tow

The replacement one I bought was slightly smaller but works from Walmart. The reason why still have it is it's still good. The other battery failed. Something to think about.

I had a spacer in mine that got chucked when I went with a 94. As others have said, get the big boy.

Thank you all. Dumped the spacer and put the group 94 in. Couldn't get the battery blanket to fit, so i just trimmed it off and kept the portion on the engine side of the battery.

My 2020 Max Tow came with the larger battery.

Sounds like if you get the aux switches, you get the larger battery. My 2021 Sport max tow had the group 48 in it. Replaced with group 94 and dumped the spacer at the front of the battery.

I don't have aux switches, but the battery was replaced under warranty. I wonder if the dealer swapped in the larger battery (with the larger cover). My equipment list does not list the larger battery.

Good point. Wouldn't surprise me if they said lets not replace this again and give you the larger battery and cover.

I might order the larger battery blanket just for giggles to cover the new group 94 battery (depending on price)
