I just saw the following news article where diesel prices are at an all-time high of ~$8.00/gallon in San Francisco.

https://www.newsweek.com/san-francisco-diesel-prices-approach-historic-peak-11783266

Well aware they are increasing everywhere....

I've had to pay ~$5.69/g around me, but fortunately, I work from home and only have to fill up every few weeks. I think at $8.00 I would seriously consider alternatives.

Wondering how folks are handling it; changing driving habits, temporarily parking and going for lower cost options, or just 'eating' it?

It’s not the first time I’ve seen outrageous gas prices in Cali. My buddy has a diesel Rubi and he doesn’t seem to care. Here in CA our gas tax helps pay for road maintenance but the roads are still shit so it is what it is. All you can do is hope they come back down sooner than later.

Diesel is 5.19 by me right now. I've got an old Forester I could drive but I'm still driving the Jeep for the most part. Although everything I own takes either diesel or premium. In the grand scheme of how much life costs right now the fuel is pretty minor. But, I don't have a long commute either.

Crazy a lot of the folks in the bay area have 1.5+ hour commutes... but it's probably mostly at a crawl anyway. Still has to hurt, it's already prohibitively expensive around there.

I was planning a big west coast road trip in the Jeep this June... not sure if that's still going to happen.

Fun fact, the last tankers with fuel that left the Hormuz before they shut it down will get to us within the next week or so. We're just feeling the global prices right now, not the actual physical scarcity on our shores yet. JPMorgan is estimating a fuel crisis worse than the 70s. United Airlines is estimating $175 a barrel, which is a 50% increase over the current $115/barrel. If it ends up bring true, we're looking at $9 a gallon.

If I had the space I'd be filling a tank.

I have a gasser but I stock diesel for the tractor when the price is lower. It’s lasts a bit longer than gas and with Sta-bil it’s not really a concern.

I keep about 60 gallons of gas on hand as well for times like this. Buy low/use high.

Cruise ships are going to start tacking on a fuel surcharge. Even if your cruise is already paid for months in advance. Wifey just got done taking a 7 day cruise. Picking her up now.

Airlines are going to start tacking on the fuel surcharge too.

I find myself driving the JTM over the JTRD now that diesel has hit $6.99/gallon. Ok, that is a lie as I really like the diesel over the gas! But I only commute twice a week to the beach and as my wife keeps reminding me, we can’t take it with us! I do drive the JTM for short trips if my wife is gone with her car. Gotta keep the miles down on the Jeeps!

6.49 a gallon of diesel here. 90$ to fill from a little less than half a tank. Thinking about a dual purpose motorcycle.

Filled up in the Southwest Henderson/Vegas area 2 days ago, and it was $6.50 a gallon. Fortunately I don't put a lot of miles each year on the truck, but it was still an ouch. (Not quite 40k miles on my '22) It's the business truck, so the business will have to deal with it.

Even with the current fuel prices being crazy, it's cheaper per mile to drive our diesel Jeeps than it would be to drive the equivalent gas versions.

Yeah, I think that is going to be location dependent (range between cost of gas and diesel). I ran some numbers for me, with local fuel prices and average economy for both versions, and it is ~$23 more for my diesel over 1000 miles. However, I pulled some info from the internet on Washington State (based on your sig) fuel prices and the diesel would be ~$22 cheaper. Used CA averages and the JTRD is about $10 cheaper using the diesel.

All that said, I REALLY like my diesel engine, so that's worth quite a bit to me :like:

Diesel around here is around $6 a gallon. But gasoline is around $4 a gallon. It is cheaper to drive the diesel JT than it is to drive our gasoline Wrangler, in part because the Wrangler is more heavily modified and only gets around 14 or 15 mpg while the Diesel JT is around 25 mpg for the same sort of driving.
But mostly we drive an electric car or an electric truck, as that still costs the same to drive, and is way cheaper even without the crazy fuel prices. The Wrangler and the Gladiator are weekend toys for us. For the day to day stuff we mostly drive EVs.

I've been contemplating EV for daily, but it's not cost effective until I can pay cash for one. Adding a second car payment defeats the purpose of saving money. I've got a BMW 3 series that I daily now, so I'll drive that until it dies and then see what i can find in EV.

You could always put a set of 30-31” on the truck for daily driving. Low pro with the spinnas!! Super bright obnoxious chrome of course. 😎
