That sucks!!!
Was yours a P0300 or something else?
Well they didn’t give me the specific code. It is the ESS service light followed by check engine light. ESS activates while backing down driveway low speed. Then several miles later check engine. Misfires, no acceleration and only 14mpg average. Just a reminder this Gladiator replaced an identical one that dealership bout back June 22, 2020. This has been going on since April 28, 2020.

Just got back the gladiator after being in the shop since 6/15/2020 and auto start stop light is on again. This will be the 4th time in the shop and well over 35 days. Love the gladiator but looking into the option of getting the lemon law. Dealer has been hard to work, talked to FCA and they said my dealer was taking a long time answering emails and ordering parts. Visited the dealer and asked what was going on and he admitted To not following quite closely. FCA also game me a different rental because dealer had given me a mini van . Going to try a new dealer.

That too bad. It’s interesting that your service report does not reference the TSB 18-053-20. Unless your dealer has already done that software update I would think that they may not have addressed the real issue. I don’t know what the software related to TSB 18-053-20 does but it is supposed to be the remedy for the P0300 misfire issue at this point. I have also gotten the message and light concerning the ESS that you show in this pic. When I turn the engine off and turn it back on it goes away. My truck is running fine so I’m going to ride this out unless/until I get the MIL Indicator Lamp (Check Engine Light) coming back on or I hear otherwise from the service department. I contacted the Service Manager at my dealer this morning and let him know that I have gotten the “Stop/Start Unavailable; Service Stop/Start System” message and light 2 x since I picked the vehicle up on Wednesday. I have not heard back from him yet.

I didn’t realize this was your Gladiator #2. I would be beyond frustrated at this point if I were you. Sorry. This is unfortunate.

Day #3, after software update, and I was backing out of driveway first thing this AM, and my ESS Needs Service Light and Error Message came on. Reset after restart. No CEL light . . . yet. This sucks!

What is the production date on your replacement?

Mine was released from the shop 2 days and 76 miles ago. Software update was performed. CEL just came on at startup during lunch today. Current total mileage is 502. Back to the shop...

The fix is mechanical, the software update is doing nothing for these problem vehicles. Mine is fixed an running well after they replaced the #2/4/6 side cylinder head, cam shaft, rocker arm, rockers, and the intake. Mine has not had the software update yet.

Brief update - picked up mine on Wednesday. Fortunately no check engine light so far. However, got Auto Stop/Start light and related message upon initial startup yesterday and today.

Yesterday, on 2nd and subsequent start ups, the auto stop/start light and related message did not appear.

This morning on second start up, auto stop/start light did not appear but received message that Stop/Start Not Ready. On third start up, no light or message. No sure what is going on here, but seems to be similar to reports of others.

Also, I did notice that engine seems to be running a little rough on initial start up for the day but smooths out in a few minutes.

Current mileage is 585.

The “Not Ready” could be typical, as a number of things spawn that - including how long since ESS was active.
As for me, I’ve put about 400 miles on mine since the engine work posted previously, which puts me just over 3K. While I’ve not (yet) seen any lights, in the last few days, other interesting things have cropped up, including rough idle on first start of the day, and today the radio power cycled three times before staying powered up. Neither of these has happened before. I really shouldn’t have to be monitoring a new car this much. It’s a confidence issue.

Second time in the shop for my Gladiator. This time it has been 11 days so far. I have attached the response I received when I asked for an update yesterday.

This is quite unacceptable for a new car. I think some of you who have YouTube channels should do a video or bring it to other influencers attention. I am also surprised that Jeep that one point was 120% of the market value of FCA overall is not taking these complaints seriously and publishing it. I am hesitant to buy a new one off the lot and will consider a 2021 since who knows how many are sitting in the lot with those issues.

My hunch is that there are many more Gladiators sitting in lots waiting to be sold after the pandemic and just itching for a few miles to throw a CEL and P0300 code.
I definitely agree. The later the build date the better.

I previously mentioned about having some of the YouTube influencers bring this up on one of their channels a few weeks back. Sometimes it takes media attention to get some assistance.

I’m sure they are working/trying to fix the problem, but it is crazy that it is taking this long to fix. Plus, with them buying some of these back, they have to be tearing into those engines and seeing what’s going on, so they can pinpoint the issue.

When the Stop Start Message is displayed the computer probably detects a misfire. The SS can not work when the engine misfires (according to the two dealers who worked on ours).
