So why isnt it still offered 🤔
1) Expensive - $$$6K option + $$ routine maintenance
2) Poor towing performance
3) Overheating
4) Astronomical major repair costs - ex: cab must be removed to remove turbo.
5) Chassis not designed for diesel engine - see 3 above items (an engine not designed for its chassis offers up a COMPROMISED vehicle). V-8 screamers might take note.

However, all being said above, I love my compromised Ecodiesel Glad. 😎

PS: The original factory sticker was $74K plus the dealer added sticker came to $78K !!!! I only bought because of the substantial discount at $63K OTD and that is what I consider to be at the top of the price range $$$$$ for a mid-sized truck!!!

V8 screamers take note. You’ll have a “compromised” vehicle that you’ll love.

... and did not pay $80-100K for and ... if I wanted a Gladiator, it sure wasn't going to buy a gas Pentastar Gladiator that I hated. So, yes ... I bought the better engined Jeep Gladiator, the compromise and better one. When the drivetrain warranty comes close to expiration, it'll be time to determine whether I buy another Jeep or one of the then current competitors. Hint ... it won't be more than $70K or have a V-8 engine and I suppose I will have a number of choices to choose from.

All midsize trucks are a compromise. The JT got my money for wheeling capability only. To me there's no other reason not to get a full size truck...all of which come with v8 options. They are all better trucks for everything from road trips to towing to hauling. They don't fit on trails so I'm in a compromised gladiator. The v8 swap will be cheaper than a new truck when the time comes, even the fake "competition" has a higher base price for some unreliable turbo/hybrid garbage.

Yes when My engine bites the dust I will probably have a swap performed. Which I am figuring

Can anyone comment on why mopar never made a factory aluminum V8 block? I just assumed they did since its been popular with gm and Ford since the late 90's, but I guess none of there V8's are aluminum?

It's a large cost for a weaker block that doesn't hold up as well to things like being over heated just to save 50-100lbs. Mopars have never been known to be the lightest vehicles so I'm guessing they gladly sacrificed a small weight savings for the lower cost and better durability. Even Ford went back to cast iron for the 7.3L block. Turns out for OEMs driven by people who probably don't pay a lot of attention to the temp gauge the steel block is still the better choice.

Aluminum blocks are lighter weight - by a lot. They are also easier to cool. They are more expensive to make as strong as an iron block, so cost is probably the answer

Sir, other than DEF and learning to romp on it weekly to prevent Regen issues, what expensive routine maintenance are you referring to?
- And have you ever compare 3.6 to 3.0 towing, yeah, not "poor performance". It's NOT a large displacement engine, so you can't really compare them to a 5L+ Duramax or Cummins.
- What overheating? Stock tuning FORCES engines to run like shit, ever try getting it tuned?

The new grille is one reason they didn't continue it as it didn't allow enough flow at low speeds/high loads (towing) and the cheap radiator they used (get a bigger rad), combined with lack of sales and the crap CPI pump they keep using.

Then again, similar issues killed the manual.

I have probably owned over 50 diesel vehicles in my construction company, from Mack, CAT all the way down to Ford and yes Jeep. I loved my WK2 Ecodiesel it was my vehicle to take clients around with.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I wanted to take my Gladiator into Mexico where they (at the time) didn’t have ULSD I would have bought one. I loved the torque of that engine!

Gearing gives you the capability, power just gets you there faster. I'd bet a majority of you rarely use more than 80% of what's available.

My daily commuter is a 95 Miata with all of 115 hp that it holds it's own while returning respectable economy despite 175k miles.

Dont be a spec sheep.

Didn't they do that with with the 4xe? Slapped er right in there? Didn't they just do that with the durangos? Slapped a hemi in them? How did that work out for durango sales?

As an expert in this industry, what can Jeep do to the jt to increase sales and keep die hard enthusiasts happy? More sticker packages?
