I have Firestone AT2 255/75/17 which are a C load. Looking at 285/70/17 Firestine XT or BFG K03 which are E load.
Should I expect a drastic change going to an E load.
I do 95% on road daily driver.

The KO3 is available in Load C.

I personally wouldn't go to an even stiffer tire on a Gladiator, but I am very sensitive to ride quality.

Thanks, I went online but only saw the KO2 as C load. I will have to check with my local tire guy.
I would like to keep a smooth ride as possable since I only do light off road.

Yea, KO3 is 100% available in Load C (it is probably what my truck is getting). Check Tire Rack, they list two Load C versions and a Load E.

Go with a load D. I went from stock 33"s to load D 35"'s and ran 32 psi. It rides very nice. (I should add this is on my wifes JL Rubicon. But I will be doing the same here soon on my Gladiator.)

BFGs:
086699621870 Black sidewall
086699043641 Raised white letter sidewall

Lots of other options too, Falken AT4W, AT3W, Toyo AT IIIs, multiple others.

C load range will be softer than the E load range on our trucks.

Our trucks have such low payloads, you can easily get by with C load range tires and while there is some difference between manufacturers, generally speaking the C load range will be less rigid than D or E.

E is so common now and in larger sizes it seems to be assumed that they are primarily ran on HD trucks, yet we can fit 37s easily on our light duty trucks.

Im running 35 Baja Boss ATs D load range, and would opt for C load if I could.

YMMV, if you tow, D would be a better choice.

I ordered E rated BFG KO2's by mistake from Discount tire to replace my worn out BFG KO2's in C rating, I could feel the difference in ride quality immediately, You sure notice during rotations too as the weight difference is greater. MPG is down a bit as well. Bright side is I will probably get 50K miles out of them, they are wearing great,

315/70R17 on a JLURD with 2" lift, bumpers and winch.

I noticed a .5 mpg difference and a noticable difference in throttle response going from C to E K02s with 3.73 gearing.

Stock '23 JTR, I went with Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD, which are load E. At the time, they were also around $60 less per tire compared to the KOs. They are also lighter than the stock WildPeaks.

The stock WildPeaks were always too bouncy for me, and I wanted a tougher sidewall. Yoko also had a thirty day return window if I did not like them.

After around 750 miles of mixed driving, I have no complaints.

Inflated at 37-40 PSI cold, I gained a MPG. They take the bumps better too. All of this is subjective of course.

I wondered what mine were, couldn't find a letter, but found a weight rating. Started trying to cross reference and got this in my search results:

"A three-digit number on the tire's sidewall (e.g., 91, 94) "

Now, I'm no math-a-magician, but something seems off in that explanation...

The number is a more accurate weight load rating.

I think you my have missed the issue because it's almost too obvious to spot!

Mine went up ,cause I went from Mud tire to hybrid terrain. Although they are E rated ( made same mistake ) I just let more air out and they ride better than the D rated mud tires. Not Joking either.
The noise level also went down 100%
