Hey guys & gals.

Just wanted to share my findings while towing the absolute limit with 35s.

For research purposes, and a good laugh, I decided to pull my brothers 24ft Cobia with my Overland. The boat itself of about 4500lbs, trailer 1000lbs, gear and people about 1000lbs or more, total about 6500lbs.

Only towed about 10 minutes up the road but the gladiator did surprisingly well. Unloaded and loaded with ease. I was quite shocked with how easy it was pulling it out of the landing in 2wd, the rpms never went over 3500.

I would definitely recommend some heavy duty shocks though..

Curious what speed you were up to as well as what is the highest gear you were in.
Thanks in advance

Is that with the stock 3.73’s?

Also, do you have spacers on those wheels?

I've been trying to understand what a Max Tow package provides you over what you can get with just the standard trailer-tow package.

What is the real difference between Sport S? It seems like you have the heavier axles, similar to the heavy axles on the Rubicon, but is a trac-loc, not a locker, along with the 4.10 axle ratio.

On the Sport? The big difference is the addition of the heavy-duty 4-wheel disk brakes. So it appears that if you get the Sport S, you are already getting the heavy-duty 4-wheel disk brakes.

Higher tow rating, 7650 vs 6000. Wider axles to handle the weight. Better disk brakes. Progressive rear shocks that are firmer.

The Rubicon also has the wider axles..., but not a higher tow rating.

So the primary driver that the Max Tow has that is not available on all the other Gladiator variants is the better disk brakes? If that is the case, it does make sense.

Also firmer rear suspension through the use of a progressive rear shock.

The Max Tow is a Rubicon without all the added weight of the armor and Rubicon accessories, like the swaybar disconnect. Also has smaller tires. So you get the most torque to the ground and a lighter truck. This allows for greater towing. Also the Max tow rear springs are maximized for reducing squat.

I think the biggest thing is gearing. The lower the final drive ratio, the cooler the trans will be.

So if one were to start with a Max Tow, put larger tires on it, and a Rubicon take-off suspension, or just put a lift on it, what does that do to the towing capacity?

Theres a HUGE debate on that and no concrete info..and ill add im far from an expert. What im about to say is regurgitated from several other threads.

General consensus is that it will lower your cargo carrying capacity a bit due to the extra weight and effect the squat some from adding spacers. It MAY also lower tow capacity...not sure how that is.

I have a max tow and my trailer is 4500 ish. I have a 2in spacer lift and use a WDH to stay nose down for best towing control.

The big game changer is the weight and bigger tires. Added weight = decreased cargo capacity. And larger tires need more power to turn, and also add weight.

Personally on my JTMT I wont go over 34s and stock rims since towing is more important to me than mall crawling. And I only added a handful of rubi take offs ( rock rails / bed rock rails / plastic bumper / fox shocks / rubi rims )
