I am going with the ORP, figuring the additional badge of the Pro is not worth the thousands they want. It is 23 with less than 15k miles.

Funny, I am so burnt out on trying to trust the jeep(s), I had a JL too... and the dealer, that I am looking forward to that 1925 feel.

Man, I’d love to hear what she has to say about the new gen’s lol. The OP should be good to go with a 5th gen 4Runner, super solid vehicle, been around since 2010, I had 2 of them before my Glady and JL. But definitely stay away from the new 6th gen’s hitting the street, as well as the new 4th gen Tacos. The new 4th gen Taco and 3rd gen Tundra (22+) dropped the Toyota quality marks significantly.

Coming from two Tacomas that I kept over 10 years each, I was ready to move in a new 4Runner in 2022. Sadly the 4Runner is built on the Hilux chassis not the Tacoma and does not have the leg and headroom of the Tacos. Such a great vehicle but I could not get over the cramp felling with my 6’1” height. I was ready to move on from the boring Tacos, and the Gladiator fit the bill. I totally get the angst against your Jeep, not worry free like the older Toyotas.

I agreed with you completely. I am trying to go back to a safer version of a truck, grabbing something solid for a few years, hopefully let ting the service people/equipment catch up with the electronics designers. I believe the 5G to be that safe spot for now.

Not much out there that is reliable for a body on frame. Chevies seem to be good, but too big for me, and the rest are too expensive AND most likely too complicated.

My wife has the TRD off road 4Runner I’ve got the Diesel gladiator. Both have been trouble free and fun vehicles for us. My only wish is that we could get the 4Runner with a diesel for the fuel mileage and power lol

Have you considered a cybertruck? Their prices may be coming way down and now they come equipped with the latest Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines and a factory MG42.

Having owned a few Tacoma's in my years of driving, I do not know anything about the 4-Runner. With that said, I would consider the Land Cruiser over the 4-Runner.

As a former Tacoma owner, I can't speak much about the 4Runner other than what I've been told from others and how it was all similar to my complaints about the Taco. Look great, reliable, but an outdated gutless gas hog. They'll make "decent" power if you rev the piss out of em, but at normal driving they are gutless, and thats before any additional cargo weight.

When I bought my Tacoma the throttle felt touchy at low rpms, power delivery wasn't smooth at all and felt like fueling was slightly off, hunted for gears if a bug flew by, and was not even close to Toyotas claims for mpgs. Engine and transmission combination created unresponsive and unpredictable driving characteristics that made many situations in heavy traffic feel unsafe. After asking the forums I found they were all considered "normal" and I should stop having such high expectations. After a regear and flash tune I thought I was happy with it, but it was more so just becoming "ok" with it. Now that I have my Jeep I'm very happy I got out of that Tacoma.

With that said, Toyota makes a reliable vehicle, but the reason they are reliable is they wait for other manufactures to perfect new technologies before they implement it. They don't blaze the path, they don't pioneer anything, they play it safe and wait which results in consumers getting outdated tech at premium prices.

I found that most happy Toyota owners were either A) very simple to please, or B) had never owned anything modern or current prior to their Toyota. The owners that weren't happy were the ones coming from other modern vehicles with modern tech, modern powerplants etc and were let down by what Toyota provided.

That was my experience.

I’m mildly in the same boat, but only because my previous Jeep problems. I fear for when my currently gladiator goes down the tubes. Eying a GX potentially but I’ll wait till my extended warranty runs out before going down that road.

That sucks. I have never had a good experience with my local dealership. 150% morons, all the way up to the Parts manager and service manager and the GM. All ignored multiple emails and phone calls over an entire year of trying to get just 1 shock replaced. Wave program is almost as worthless IMO.

We also had a 2022 runner limited. I hated that thing. It drove like it was hauling a 7000 lbs trailer all the time. Really soured my Toyota feelings. I still have my '04 Tacoma though. That thing will outlive my next 3 jeeps. 4-Runner though Meh. We do still have a 2017 4-Runner also. That has like 250k miles on it HAHAHAHA!! That is still a champ too.

Either way, sorry to hear you are transitioning. I'm sure you'll do the Toyota justice!

feel the Premium trim is the best bang for the buck.

The Premium has...part time 4WD, A-Trac, MTS, crawl, locking rear diff, soft tex seats.
The options on the Premium are...MTM, KDSS suspension, sliding rear cargo deck.

I heard that they rust quite easily. I guess they are going through their learning

I have never owned a 4Runner, but after doing a lot of research on used 4Runners, many folks
feel the Premium trim is the best bang for the buck.
