If removing roof and/or doors are not your thing. Get something else. I agree a Jeep isn’t a relaxing interstate drive.

What does the rest of the family think?
Their opinion matters way more than anyone here.

Don't understand the intention of this thread.

Similiar to the "Good by, I have to leave" threads ...

Sometimes people are looking for validation or a gut check of their decision making process and use the forum as a sounding board.

Of course the downside is the membership is biased and some take it as a affront to mere suggest such things.

I would jump from my JT to the ZR2 in a heart beat. I don't offroad because I just don't have the time to right now so it almost defeats the purpose. I rarely take my doors off because I live in New England where it rains throughout the week in the summers. That being said, I personally don't find the jeep comfortable on trips and you get much more for your money with the ZR2.

If you like the ZR2, which I think is AWESOME looking, do it. We live in a time of higher interest rates that most of us really aren't used to so it is what it is on that topic. I just haven't made the jump because I'm not sure if I want to get back into a larger vehicle - for kid purposes.

You do you

What I like:

I can get this straight from the factory with rock rails, nice suspension, driving a vehicle it feels like I haven't been driving since 2013 (I've had 2 JKs and this gladiator); the engine is more powerful, looks cool, tows enough, IFS for daily driver and everything but rock crawling; not worrying about death wobble;

What I don't like:

2024 interest rates, making payments again, losing SAS for the rocks, less tow capacity; MPG isn't great; reliability of engine is unknown at this point; spending 3 years to fix death wobble only to trade for IFS; not a big Chevy fan; losing all the money I've spent in mods.

I like the reliability of my gladiator, but I don't like how it drives. I'm tired of it (sometimes). It tows well. It crawls well. It's done every single thing I've ever asked it to do. It is truly a jack of all trades. But 99% of the time, it's my daily driver, and it's a punishing one at that. I wouldn't call it fun to daily, at all. I'm on 37s, I'm regeared to 4.88s, and it's modded as far as it'll go. But I'm losing the spark.

Let's discuss.

Area of use: socal
Rockcrawling: yes, extreme trails
Towing: yes, 4k lb camper
Kids: yes x2
For me, turbocharged and gasoline is a no no for reliability. That is my personal take. Also, any engine GM makes with AFM puts stress on the transmission and TC because of the way the torque converter modulates its own lockup to cancel out the vibrations from half the cylinders basically missing on purpose. These 2.7’s are equipped with that. There’s many many folks with AFM equipped V8’s that can be found on Silverado and Corvette forums. That would be my reason to stay far away.

1. It's not a convertible.
2. Has Chevy fixed the dash problem?

Let it marinate for a bit and put money into a sinking fund in the meantime.
And then if you're still feeling it by that time, go buy it in full, and then no payments to worry about.

I really like the new Colorado, but no more manual is a deal breaker for me personally. My 2015 was a great truck though, no dealer visits over 90k.

37s are lumbering, the engine is weak, and it's just a rough ride. Even on Synergy springs (huge improvement) and vertex shocks.

Regarding doors off, I never do it because it's a hassle. Same with the hardtop. I'd much rather have a power sunroof.

Kids are 5 and 7.
The problem with the rough ride is the choice in in lift kit / shocks / etc. I can tell you that a Rock Krawler 3" with Fox 2.5 shocks is the absolute ticket. It is crazy how good my truck drives with just that one upgrade. It is literally a night and day difference. And it is my daily driver, my hunting get muddy up and down dirt roads hauling butt, towing the boat, golf cart and trailer and whatever I need. All of my hunting buddies have what I call "beat em up trucks", full size pickups with little clearance and they constantly wonder why I can go places they cannot.

With that said, I don't know if you've modded it correctly. Especially how you are describing it. I just got back from a 9+ hr trip to the mountains and love it more today than I did when I left.

I considered a full size too (could open up a bigger trailer option with more towing potential), but the rock trails in socal are tight enough as it is. Midsize is where it's at for me. A Rivian seemed interesting too but just too expensive, too unfamiliar, and I'm not ready to smash that thing around offroad.

I do like the JT a LOT more now that I fixed the tire wobbling issue (needed more camber apparently). I certainly don't hate the JT, but driving my wife's car back to back reveals that I still like the process of driving. I wanted a DD 6 speed, but wife veto'd having a third card clogging the driveway. I'd prefer to have the gladiator as a pure, reliable tow pig/offroader, but with that not in the cards, I'm poking around.

I think if I had to decide today it would heavily come down to the interest rates and trade in value. The Chevy would have to be very impressive on a test drive to make me want to get into payments again.

I agree with some of the other posts about the appearance of these new twins (Chevy/GMC). They are aggressive with a nice design.

However, for me that is where it ends. My wife wants a midsize truck of her own and went a drove a Canyon Denali. As stated, the look was great but nothing else about it appealed to us. The turbo 4 cylinder, fit & finish, seats, ride quality and overall cheapness of it.

GM quality control has really slipped and it shows. Coming from 30 years as a GM technician, I still stop in at the Chevy dealer to chat with the guys. They say the same thing. Cool design but very disappointing otherwise along with many first-year problems.

You can read all about them over on the Colorado Fans forum.

I just went through the whole midsized truck shopping merry-go-round. Looked at all the twin turbo 4 cyl setups and bought a diesel JTR. Coming from a full size dodge Cummins. Those new high rpm 4 bangers, don’t inspire any confidence in longevity…The GM electrical problems don’t either
