I bought a 2x6 and cut out some hand holds to easily move it if I need to. Now my trunk items won’t shift to the front of the bed when braking!

I plan to paint it black, but it would be hard to see what I did... hence before pic.

I have heard conflicting stories so I have been too lazy to cut anything to try it out. I have seen where it is expected to be 2x4's stacked and then a 2x4 cross bar over the wheel wells but then I have also heard it is supposed to be a 2x6 up front like you did. What are your thoughts now that you put in the 2x6? The majority of the time it will just be a separator to stop stuff from shifting (groceries, toolbag, etc) but if for moving drywall and such it is better to go with the stacked 2x4's I would rather just do it once. What do you think now that the 2x6 is in place, do you think that is level enough for plywood, drywall, etc?

You’re right, I forgot to check the height of the board with the wheel well and gate. A 2x6 is too short. However it looks like I can add some small 1-by-1 blocks and it will be perfect. But the blocks need to sit inside the ribs of the bed. If you did one long one-by it would make the board too high.

Thanks for confirming. My luck I will put it all in and not need anything 4x8 for months and then it won't sit right or it flexes and brakes so that actually helps allot

did you know that the tailgate half position with the 2 boards is about 7" above the bed floor?

if you want to also use your board with the handles to haul plywood, you should do the same thing to a slightly ripped down 2x8.

I would think that the wheels wells and the tailgate would be sufficient contact points for just transporting almost all sheet goods. I do not see the need for a middle contact point.

Now if you are just trying to separate your bed into smaller chambers I would think that board would work well.

if you want the long version, check out my build thread.
Where have you been all my life, Gladys?
if you want the short version, it was 6 and 7/32" for me, BUT i have a roughly 14/32" bed mat. So that's like 6 21/32" round down to 20 for easiness, and that's 6 and 5/8".

So i'm thinking 2-2x4 would be too tall and a 2x6 is going to be too short, your mileage may vary.

if you're hauling just a few sheets I would agree.

But I would never have done this without that middle board.

That is why I am confused as Jeep hasn't said much regarding it but from what I am gathering (to be honest I thought it was your post) the idea now is that they designed it for 2 2x4 in the back vertical slot but then they want another 2x4 to sit on the wheel well to make it all level out but it looks to me like there should be a angle cut to make sure it sits well but do you need 30, 40, etc degree cut. I am sure there is something in the manual that I don't know the Jeep Marketing "name"for. Sorta like the Jeep "autostick"
