I used it to ferry parts from parts store, to get the Willy’s running. Finally did just before dark. Took the kids for a spin on the neighborhood dirt road.
Dan, take some time to get to know the Willys before ya start the project, there is something about driving around in an old truck that is way cool , and having a survivor truck is so much different then a modded one, you well know when you find yourself caressing the front fender which is old school thick steel . There are a few of them around my town , still driving around, mostly original and they get a lot of looks…..Jack

Heck yeah. I'd love to find a stock one. A survivor.

That’s actually maybe the plan. I’m considering leaving it together until I build the new engine and tranny. I’ll hook up the headlights, taillights, and blinkers, and maybe just drive it while I get the new drivetrain together.

Its engine is not a survivor unfortunately. But the tranny, transfer case, frame, axles, and body are original…ish.

It has all the makings of an epic build.

Today I dropped the long torx bit for the door "restraining arms" into the seam between the inner fender and body. That cavern to hell is over 7" deep according to my feeler gauge. My smallest magnet snake couldn't fetch it.

Where? Maybe it’s just early, but I can’t picture it.

Borrowed a buddy's car trailer and went and got my youngest son's Jeep. The upper tank on the radiator cracked, engine overheated. We believe it also blew the head gasket.
We'll start to tear into it tomorrow.

Picture taken in the auto parts store parking lot.
Son's Jeep is a 99 TJ Sahara. He's the 3rd owner and I know the first two. It had 60k miles when he got it, now it's just shy of 100k.
Head gasket was blown, the oil and antifreeze weren't inter-mixing.
Walking the intake/exhaust into place is a pain. Got it all done and seems to be running good several days later.
He epoxied the crack in the radiator tank, it's holding so far after several heat cycles. Now he's on the hunt for a good all metal radiator, we'll swap that asap.

My JTRD pulled his Jeep no problem. No real big grades, but there are a few hills we went up and down. A couple times I looked down and realized I was doing 70mph. Tried to keep it between 60 and 65mph on the freeway.

The hobo would be proud. Got it muddy, dusty, bottomed out a couple of times and put the snow plow brackets into the mud at a couple creek crossings.
Sway bar disconnects were suggested to help in a couple of spots.
No more often than they'd be used, just something inexpensive.
With the snow plow brackets hanging down, was glad for the extra Mojave height up front.
