That makes a lot of sense. I agree with you on that. If you want a camper shell of that style a full size truck truck is a much better tool for the job.
Funny you drive a Supra! I was looking at Supras and m240i xdrives. Now I’m leaning towards the new m2. Unfortunately none of them are very practical haha.
There ya go, now you got the right idea. You are looking at some cool rides. I've had my Supra for about 60 days now, and we just got snow. I'm sad. I just finished doing a legit 6.5" upgrade on my front end of the JT, and now my custom front drive shaft is vibrating. I've done everything else right on it as far as the lift goes, but, whats another $1k for a driveline? ugh. can't drive the Supra in snow, maybe an X-drive would have been a more practical decision for a DD, ha ha. Good luck, it never ends.

That’s annoying. Did you get a new driveshaft when you got the 6.5” lift?
X-drive definitely seems more practical but the new m2 looks insanely fun to drive.

Literally every other midsize truck has that configuration. Can we please not mess with the last solid axle midsize truck by trying to make it a Tacoma?
Same. If you want comfort in a Jeep, get a GC. I have a Commander and yeah it's comfortable and capable, but certainly not cheap. IFS just opens the door for more failure points. I'm even battling with the idea of a SFA on the Commander also ;)

People who say the Gladiator is "a bad truck and a bad Jeep" should have bought a Wrangler or a fullsize truck.

There's nothing wrong with the Gladiator as a truck unless you bought the wrong vehicle for your needs. I need it to do things that any light duty truck could do, and it does all those things really well.

If the Gladiator is too small or too light to do what you want, you bought the wrong tool for the job, it's not the screwdriver's fault you are trying to use it as a hammer. You using the wrong tool for the job is a *you* problem, stop blaming the tool for your failure to correctly assess your needs.

my unpopular opinion about jeeps is its the most unreliable piece of shit ive ever owned. Please prove me wrong ! Less than 10,000 miles and it sits getting repaired at the dealer more than i drive it, now the driveshaft is mysteriously bad.

Would not call that an unpopular opinion.just a statement of your individual situation. In the aggregate, most people do not have a loss of use quality issue.

Lets see some one with say 40000 miles or less on that never had a problem with there gladiator. For the price of them there should be no issues at all.

Only have 2688 miles on the Gladiator, but the drivetrain is basically the same as both JLs we've owned. The 1st had 67k trouble free miles including hundreds of trails, 2 moab trips, 17 states, and 26 badge trails including most the moab badges and the rubicon trail. Most of that was on 37s or 38s. After that one was stolen, our 2022 has also been trouble free for 27k+ miles. It's on 39s now. The JT is on 37s already as well. We also had my 89 xj that was built and wheeled hard go over 200k miles without major issues and the wife's 01 WJ was at 230k miles when we retired it. Call us lucky or blessed by the Jeep gods but they've all been solid. Both ford's I've ever bought new on the the other hand...

I can understand when it is your turn in the barrel, you feel like that.

While not pushed out to 40K miles, I am on my third Gladiator with the previous two traded in around the 30K mile range. Other than the first year 2020 model that had the usual steering box TSB and rear window leak, my 2021 and current 2022 JT has been of no issue. Even in all three, none of them left me hoofing it from the side of the road.

As to the price vs. quality comparison, that really has not been a thing in over 30 years. If that was the case, Italian Exotic Supercars should be the pinnacle of quality but they suffer from the same fact that higher cost usually means more tech and more things to go wrong.

I have been where you are with other brands and they all make the occasional turd.

Why do some people wave at other Jeeps with only one finger?

I have almost 70k on my 2020 Gladiator Sport. Only time it sees a shop is for an allignment after I install upgrades. One of the most reliable vehicles I've owned. I't number 9.

My unpopular opinion is SO unpopular that you won’t like it whether you agree with it or not. I don’t even like it:

In a decade or so our Jeeps will be obsolete lumps which embarrass your kids and are useful only for occasional nostalgic senior’s tours . Electric vehicles with half the weight, five times the torque, twice the range and 1/20th the cost per mile will easily outdo everything we can do now, on and off-road.
You DO have a sense of humor!!!
