I’d like to see/hear from those who have the steel rubicon bumpers and have dropped a winch in there. What winch did you pick and what was your experience and your initial impressions?

I have the same Smitty winch but with the Rockhard plate. Part of the decision was cost and others with successful installed combo. First winch ever for me, but planning some trips this year so I got it just in case. Will give me time to learn how to use this properly. The install went as smooth as I expected. Good luck with your setup! Edit: forgot to mention this setup weighed the front down just under a 1/4 inch.

Looks great! Waiting on the same Ace bumper and my Warn Zeon 10s is sitting in the garage waiting, impatiently.

Oh you will love the bumper (and the winch)!!

I came off the trail on this run and it got me back on track. What did you do for the rest of the recovery gear? I got an ARB pack that has been great.

I got 25 years of accumulated stuff - snatch blocks, bow shackles, straps, tree savers. I just retired my Ramsey Rep8000 after 25 years and 3 vehicles but decided to go Warn this time.

All new for me so you know how it goes, first time stocking gear :)

I am looking for a replacement for the left and right rear tow hooks. I am getting a center hitch recovery point, but I had to use the hooks to get my rear end to go to the side on a narrow trail. Would be nice to have a closed solution instead of the hooks. Just a personal preference.

Never Really had any issues with open tow hooks. Be interesting to see what you end up with. Seems like someone out there should have something you need without having to change the rear bumper. Good luck.

Interested as well on dropping one into the steal bumper. Was thinking the WARN Zeon 10S platinum. Any reason to get the 12? Did you have to do anything to front suspension with the weight?

I dropped Warn's Evo 10-S into my Rubicon's OEM steel bumper using the mounting plate from Rusty's Offroad. It was a fairly easy one-person install. I put a winch on my Scrambler in 1982 and the only thing I ever used it for was pulling other people out of places they should not have been in the first place. I did not mount winches on my last 2 Jeeps and never needed one. Hopefully I won't need this one either but I suppose it's a nice accessory to have.

I went with the 12 vs the 10 because there was not much difference in pricing when I bought mine (Black Friday deals) - figured why not have a little extra capacity.

I had already installed a 3/4-inch Daystar Level kit in the rear and a 1.5-inch Terraflex on the front (expecting to the front to drop a little with the added weight of the winch and winch plate). I am really happy with the stance of my JT with 35's installed. The install was pretty straight forward.
