You get 3 free with the Jeep Wave program...I never used them as it was too much of a hassle to get my truck in to the dealer. Plus, it's an easy change with the filter on top of the engine and enough clearance to get under the vehicle without ramps and I check everything else while I'm under there.

I go 7,500 on oil change intervals since it is an easy calculation. I find oil/filter specials on synthetic oil and filter at Autozone and with points earned end up around $35 per change.

I have a JTR which had the full size spare but with a steel wheel. Drove my nuts knowing I had a $300+ tire under the truck which would never be used. Found someone on here selling individual Rubicon take-offs, added an OEM TPMS sensor so now I do 5-tire rotations. Something to think about if you can find a 5th wheel.

Is that $75 amount a dealership oil change full retail? Like others mentioned, you can get both the OEM filter and name brand full synthetic oil 5 quart jug for like $30-$40 easily at Walmart if doing it yourself.

Gladiator and Wrangler 3.6L are about the easiest oil change to do yourself.
That was the price if you use the Jeep app to schedule an appointment at my dealership. I’m going to give them a try for the first change plus the tire rotation and see how it goes since it’s free and go from there afterwards. The horror stories of how bad dealerships are makes me wary though, even with a dealer I actually like.

I could save less than 10 bucks each time I would change the oil in my Silverado compared to the dealer, but the price of doing it yourself for the JT vs paying the dealer to do it for you definitely won’t have me visiting them anytime soon if it’s not free.

The biggest buffoonery I see with dealership complaints is that they put in 6 quarts of oil instead of the stated 5 quarts that the JT/JL's now take for the 3.6. Early on, the confusion of 6 quarts was from the older Wrangler JK spec engines that took 6 quarts. If your dealership argues with you or tries to put in and bill out 6 quarts, they are hacks and you know where they stand.

I save time by going to the dealership with the free tire rotation

I just follow the indicator and my oil always looks clean from what they show me at the dealership and when I keep a check on it. Mine normally last around 8,500 miles that's with 10% life left and that's normally when I take it in. I had 4 free oil changes with jeep wave and 4 tire rotations when I bought mine but they may have changed to 3 now. I also purchased the 6 additional oil changes and tire rotations they offered at my dealership. Cost $350 but it's worth it to me because I don't want to mess with it. I got almost 60,000 miles on mine and it runs and sounds great and has never been low on oil or has the oil looked dirty in that time.

Yeah I'll use my free oil changes up and buy another package it it's available. They rotate my 37's and change oil for a $58 roughly a oil change with that package. Well worth it for me to let them do it. My times worth more than that. I still have 4 oil changed left and I'm right at 60,000 miles. At this rate they will be doing them for me until probably 100,000 miles or more.

People Work?
It’s not sampling the oil, it’s using load, temps, mileage to determine the life remaining. How would it know that you changed the oil?
That's my point.
It's not an accurate indicator of the quality of the oil that's in the crankcase. It's a timer and slightly upgraded idiot light at best.

You are right, none of them are an accurate indicator but the algorithm of most modern OLM's are pretty good ball parking when to change oil. Early GM's and most Toyota's until recently were just mileage tickers but most others of late are pretty good predictor OLM's for remaining life. Vehicles with DI engines even have better OLM's due to fuel dilution issue and will weigh idle time more severely than others.

I just changed mine for $36 plus tax. You will need a 15/16" socket to get the oil filter cap off. Before I ran out of warranty and free changes I let the dealer change the oil. But now that Im over the warranty, Ill do my own oil change in the garage. Takes 15 minutes and the best part is that there is no jack or stands to deal with!

But the dealership includes a tire rotation that would take me a lot longer.

Here is my $0.02 based on personal experience after putting 233K miles on my 09 JKU.

Jeep, MOPAR, FCA, and Stelantis (or whatever you want to call them) are liars and do not care about your vehicle's life expectancy. The manual maintenance schedule is designed to get you out of warranty and that is it. I was a lifetime powertrain warranty owner and they point blank basically refused to fix my Jeep for minor head gaskets saying it was past its life expectancy and that was that - they bought it back.

Early on I started doing lots of preventative maintenance because I planned on keeping my Jeep for life. I changed all fluids at 20K etc. but when I pulled my spark plugs at 62K miles and they were completely cooked I was astonished the thing even ran. I opened the book up and it said they were good for 102K miles. After that day I cut everything in half moving forward. This is further supported by things like Mopar claiming a lifetime fill on the 8 speed transmission when ZF themselves who designed the damn thing says to change it every 60K.

So I guess the question is - do you plan on keeping it? No - change the oil when it says. Yes - I would suggest halving the intervals for all driveline components not just oil.

I plan on keeping it for sure. Not sure how much longer a manual will be available, and I got the color I wanted so I’m happy. I appreciate the responses from everyone and all the help.

I might average 14.5 MPG around town, but my engine oil is “carbon neutral.” Happy to do my part for the environment. ?
