The problem with a lot of these never heard of name Amazon or Ebay sold winches is that they play with the duty cycle ratings to advertise a max value rating that is often over inflated and should be a rating lower if you are expecting a decent duty cycle time out of them. Most people that have problems with these types of winches usually have exceeded the rated duty cycle time thinking they will have the same of a better known brand and quality level.

The "recovery" video in the description is impressive ?
Yeah, if you need a winch for that level of "stuck", wheeling might not be for you.

I bought this one at a good deal during Black Friday and worked well the one time I’ve used it so far. Very similar to the HF Badland. The cable for the the controller when using it as wired has the Badland logo on it. Fits great in the RR Arcus bumper.

I also have the Zeak 13000lb winch. I have used it once for recovery (worked well) and also to move a few down palm trees from driveways around me after Ian came through.

I wonder how many of the off brands are just rebadged Badlands or some other brand?

These are not rebadged Badlands winches, the cycle duty on most of these cheaper no name winches are pretty slow. They will get the job done but probably take 3 times as long. The badlands is a superior winch to any of these and great buy. I had one on my JKU that lasted 7yrs and was still working when I sold it and I have the newer one with synthetic line on my JT and it does as good as any at that price point

The reason I said that is because someone earlier said they have a Zeak that had a Badlands logo on the controller. I'm not saying they are all rebadged, but it's possible that some are. For $300ish, I'm not looking to save the world with it and my expectations are not to have $1000 Winch results.

Never understood how people can spend $50K+ on a Jeep and buy utter bottom of the basement Chinese garbage winches made from pot metal. And every spec they list is fake/made up and the winch will be 100% non-functional after a year out in the weather.

A Factor 55 UltraHook costs almost as much as this winch.

Just curious, what American made winch would you recommend?

Glad you know this from what experience. The Badlands winch I had on JKU is still operating And it's in the weather and it's almost 10yrs old. Got a buddy using that same winch on car hauler and it's close to 16yrs old. Just because it's made in China doesn't make it bad.

Warn Zeon Platinum. Yes I am aware there are some "globally sourced parts" inside.

No way I'd trust my vehicle or health with loads under stress with a $300 Chinese winch that looks like it came out of a cereal box. But that's just me.

I also purchased a HF Badland Apex winch.

Willing to give it a whirl. If I blow it up, I'll upgrade.

At this point, the Apex has a decent amount of hard use cases, and it's pretty sorted.

I look forward to using it as often as possible, probably for some dumb tasks that its overkill for too, lol

Quality/price/ value

Trying to find a good balance in those categories can be tough, and sometimes you get burned.
