Since they want to do away with ICE, California will be the first to try it, after they try to force the Utilities to upgrade the Grid. Then they will mandate all charging to be done only when the sunlight is available.
The grid right now will be lucky if it could handle a 5% increase in EV ownership.

PHEV is not the same as EV

PHEV is a great concept and best of both worlds. I don’t know why that we don’t perfect those and hybrids instead

Toyota and Honda have it right

Apartment owners won't install chargers, due to cost, unless it's government mandated. Then, you'll just see even higher prices for rent. Massive EV ownership is just not practical, at this time, on so many levels.
My grandson lives in a new apartment complex that in there ads stated chargers on site. 4 chargers for over 100 units.

My grandson lives in a new apartment complex that in there ads stated chargers on site. 4 chargers for over 100 units.
For new construction, the cost is not prohibitive like it would be to retrofit a complex. But 4 chargers for over 100 units is not practical. Putting in more may have required an electrical upgrade they did not want to pay for.

And, they can be installed anywhere now. These do not take up any available parking, are not tied to the grid, can be used as emergency power supplys, and can service up to 3 plug-ins each... They are installing these on military installations.

I think one point to take away from the EV industry is the fact that all the batteries can be recycled. All the heavy metals can be reused at the end of life of the battery. So in theory, we will reach a point where we don't need to mine for the conflict resources.

With that said, we are probably 15 + years away from sustainable battery recycling. Few companies exist that can actually get the purity required out of recycled materials.

That is one of the potential benefits of EVs vs ICE. You cant reuse gasoline after it's burned.

Also power plants are going to run regardless of EV/ Ice vehicles. The more vehicles that are converted will still reduce green house gases even though the power plants might still be coal or natural gas.

Another point that the EV revolution shows is the mismanagement of the power grid. The power companies have had decades to strengthen and upgrade the grid. They have their heads in the sand (look at Texas in the winter and California in the summer).

As it has been said, EVs aren't for everyone. Live in the city great, but they aren't for the overlanding or towing crowd. I like the idea of a 4xe gladiator, but not at the upcharge. I will just keep my gasser rubi for this reason.

I think the focus should be hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (not strictly burning hydrogen). Toyota seemed to have it right, but they finally caved in to the EV push. Hydrogen creation is also a rabbit hole in that there are like 5 types of hydrogen, some of which aren't sustainable.

Everyone should check out a podcast called how we survive (season 1), and even the new Sundance documentary called Deep Rising (2023).

Deep Rising discusses the deep sea mining industry that is starting to develop. Basically the point is that we would take strip mining on land and move it to the ocean depths. It's an interesting documentary in that the directors opinion isnt given. The viewer is free to mane their own opinion.

Let's not throw Texas under the bus for a SINGLE extremely cold week! That shit happens in Ca. every summer.

And power plants will continue to burn. Coal, natural gas, pick your poison. Cars may emit less, but you're burning more coal to keep up with demand. As long as government is trying to FORCE people to do something, there's going to be pushback. Let the market drive the demand.

Batteries are not the same as gasoline, electricity is the same as gasoline and you can't reuse it.
Batteries and fuel tanks are the same, a storage device for the fuel that is expended and we have been recycling autos for generations. EV's are NOT zero emissions, their emissions are released prior to use instead of during. If we put a big collector on the tailpipe of an ICE and released the emissions later and not during use would that make it zero emissions? I think not.
