I have watched numerous YouTube clips of others replacing and priming after replacing the Diesel Fuel Filter.
They all do the procedure listed in the owners manual several times 5-10. Some open and shut their door each time. Some wait 60 seconds between procedures. And they still all crank for a second or more before the engine fires up. I have yet to see a video where it starts as normal after a filter change.
From my reading on CP4 failures, forcing air into the system could be the cause of one of the plunger roller-bearings loosing contact and the plunger rotating 90° on the cam lobe and starting the failure process. Instead of rolling it is now grinding sideways.
I have primed the system no less than (5)five times on the first two filter changes. On my last filter change I primed (10)ten times, waited for an hour. I did this (4)four times in the period of (4)four hours and (40)forty primes. It made no difference and still cranked for about a second before starting. Just like priming only (5)five times.
It concerns me that a dealer tech will just do it twice and let the engine crank forcing air into the CP4 and injectors.
What have been your experiences when changing the fuel filter and priming?
Here is what the manual says to do. (for reference)
