Hi,

I am getting lost in specs while shopping for a an Ecodiesel Gladiator. (Or Wrangler.) I am hoping you folks have this information either memorized or in an easy to find place.

I know all the diesels have 3.73 gears and Dana 44 axles. Which trims will have the wide axles? Any trims other than the Rubicon?

Is there a chart somewhere that says which trims have which brakes. I have read that there are three versions of brakes, and I like better brakes?

Be careful what you read out there. A lot of mistakes, misinformation and so on
Looking at build sheets, every one of them says "heavy duty brakes" but so far, no one can prove there's any difference. From what I've seen - the brakes are the same on all of them.

Rubicon. Mojave (but no diesel there) and High Altitude version of the overland have the wider axles.
But it's not a big deal - it's only 0.75" per side or a total of 1.5" difference.
Don't get hooked on the wider axles unless there's a very specific reason you need them.
They are the same - just wider (except for Rubicon which has lockers front and rear)

I watched a YouTube video that said that the Sport S also had the wide axles. They were suggesting that by buying a Sport S you could add lockers and effectively build a poor man's Rubicon for a much lower cost. I don't know how to confirm if the YouTube video was correct or not.

You either watched a video that was vague or you need to watch it a little closer. Yes the Sport S has the wide axles but ONLY with the “Max Tow” package. The base Sport S has the narrow axles.

Thanks for the axle info on the Sport S with the max tow package having the wider axle, but it's fortunate that I am only interested in the max tow.

I think the video was vague on the matter, but maybe it's me being overwhelmed with Jeep specs.

keep in mind material cost of lockers is minimal, labor can be pretty high. To regear and lock a axle figure about 2k per axle maybe less. My point is if you want lockers then just go with a stripped down rubicon, that way you are only paying for something once and as a bonus the locker cost gets working into the finance rate if that is used vs having to pay for the axle upgrade outright.

Basically a little pain up front pays out on the back end.

If you're only interested in the Max Tow package, then that rules out the diesel. Max Tow is only available with the Sport/Sport S with the 3.6L and automatic transmission.

I prefer the narrow look myself. If you are buying new good luck as there is a stop sale on the diesels. My guess is the leftovers will not be sold and taken back by Jeep. There is no diesels in the line up for 2024.

i don’t see why they wouldn’t. I installed an Eaton in my sport and it was same part number as a rubicon. They are both m220 axles with 32 spline shafts.

Why would you think this? There is a "fix" for the CP4 pump, parts are being delivered and installed and Jeep is selling a good bye trim package. The stop sale was lifted and dealers are selling repaired diesel trucks.

Jeep may need to let my dealer know it was lifted. Because there are 8 on the lot they wouldn’t sell 2 weeks ago.

I was concerned about the length of the shaft and LSD or open diff differences. Thanks for the confirmation. I want to add front oem locker to my Overland.
