Bought my new High Altitude in Oct. in Nov doing a detail I noticed the white paint on right front fender had some tiny spots of grit in the paint. Took to dealer in Dec and they made an appointment at there body shop to evaluate. ( 6 week wait). So Monday the paint guy looks at it and I question if the grit in the paint was a repair. Body shop runs my Vin and comes back with report. Transport damage right fender. Removed repaired repainted reinstalled $965. So off to sales dept I go. Talk with sales manager and his excuse we did not know in sales but will fix it and will not cost you a penny. My reply to him ( cannot post it here) was of a not happy new Jeep owner. They ordered a new fender to install. I looked up Fl laws and there is a damage clause of 3% for legal claim. Should I expect more from this dealer. Will this shown up now as a repaired vehicle if i ever sell or trade.

Dont know the laws in your state, but I do know in the midwest the dealers are always making hail damage repairs on their new cars on the lot. Buyers are none the wiser, that their vehicles oncelooked like a golf ball. As long as the dealer sells it in New condition and with a new car warranty, they aren’t breaking any laws.

I know it takes the luster off buying a new vehicle, but transport damage and in manufacturing repair/rework is not uncommon.

Your dealer is not unique in that they did not disclose it. Give them a chance to fix it to your satisfaction.

Transport damage happens more frequently than you might think. There's really no issue with them fixing it, especially if it's just cosmetic damage like yours. I wouldn't care so long as it was fixed properly.
What annoys me is the fact the paint probably would have had a problem pitting from the grit in the future. Than it would be my problem.

I understand the frustration. These things are not cheap. However, try to look at the bigger picture: 1) you bought a Jeep to enjoy it and the doors it opens (or removes along with a roof) 2) with said enjoyment, scratches, scrapes and the like will come too, eventually 3) the dealer is not pushing back, they are fixing it 4) life is short.

Happy Thursday!

Before you get too miffed, they are not going to buy it back, nor are you going to be able to lemon law it, nor has any law been broken.

Once you cycle through all your justified emotions, find peace with it and let them work it.

A former step brother of mine specialized in this area. He was constantly swapping cars with dealers all over the city scrounging up business. That’s how much it happens in transit. I found it amazing that I never would have thought about this happening, and how much it happens.
I feel your frustration, but give the dealership a chance to make it right.

Don't get excited about a fender flare.
It may or may not show up in reports. It depends. Not everything ends up on those reports as has been discussed to death here. And who gives a shit if a fender flare was replaced? Really, let's get serious here. It's a cheap part that snaps off and on. You can walk up to one, get a firm grip on it and rip it right off. And new ones go on almost as easily. Paint repair for that sort of thing isn't a big deal and is extremely common.

Yup. If it's in THEIR system, it is listed as a repaired vehicle.
Listed WHERE as a "repaired vehicle"?
If it's in the dealer system as a fender touchup due to transport damage - no one is going to give a rip. Go buy another flare and snap it on.
It's not structural or frame or collision.

This report stuff has people scared silly and is so grossly over-rated, people freak out if a scratch is repaired "oh, my! (while wringing hands) my Jeep isn't going to be worth as much!!"

It may not even show up. This stuff isn't always automatic.
Rocker panel replacement on a WJ - a fairly major operation - didn't show up on any reports. And yet - that can imply accident or rust problems.

Let the dealer resolve it, move on. It's not going to impact any value, and if you are really that concerned over a possible $100 bucks difference years down the road, buy used, never new.
If you trade it - it isn't going to matter as any dealer will shrug and move on, ignoring stuff like that. So it's not going to matter a rip on a trade, and if you sell it, just point out a cheap-ass fender flare was scratched in transport. If the person is unreasonable, let them walk, you don't want them as a buyer anyway. They'll be a thorn in your side for months.

It's an insurance hit Bill, either against the common carrier that delivered it or the dealership, or JEEP.
Somebody has to push paper to justify the expense of repairing it.
It is on a permanent record somewhere.

Most people don't ever find out about it until they go to trade in.

I don't think this is something that's gonna show up on a Carfax or the like later and hurt your resale value. Let them fix it... it'll be fine.

From that description- it's just a dealer report for work done by vin, it's very unlikely to go on an insurance report as the dealer just direct paid it. Also, you would be AMAZED at how many vehicles get minor damage in shipping. IMHO, this is a non-issue as long as they do a quality fix.
