I normally, usually, generally my mileage ranges between 20.5-22.5 mpg driving at 65-70 mph at/around 3500-5000 feet elevation. My truck is bone stock except for the RSI Smartcap and Linex in the bed. This stated, while towing my mileage tends to average 10-11 mpg when driving in the same conditions previously mentioned. I'm okay with the mileage; it's way better than my dad's old '75 Ford F250 SuperCab, but the reduced range is a problem as I'm needing to fill up every 176 miles or thereabouts. I'm planning to drive my JTRD to Alaska in a few months and will need to pack lightly and bring 15-20 gallons of additional fuel.

10 - 11 mpg seems quite low. But this might be a result of the high drag of your trailer.

I was getting 23 mpg with the following setup

Jeep Gladiator Real world MPG, what are you getting in your Diesel? BPPO3034.JPG

and about 18 mpg with this

Yes, I am certain the drag negatively impacts the mileage. Aside from the range, no complaints about how it tows.

We may end up using my wife's Chevy Colorado diesel our trip to Alaska. It is better setup for towing than the Gladiator.

Actually that's on the low side for a diesel - and this is a diesel MPG thread in the diesel section.....
They typically blow into the mid-20s with ease even modified.
He's on 40" tires and has the stock 3.73 gearing. He's doing great.

Only got like 200 miles on mine right now and engine still breaking in. Getting around 19mpg. Am I to expect this to get better as the engine gets broken in?

Bone stock on 33s MT WildPeaks that came with the truck. But loving it so far. Don't have any plans on lift etc as one of the reasons why I went with diesel was for better diesel milege.

That sounds pretty low … I got 22-23 off the bat with the OEM 33” MT’s … my previous gladiator got about the same MPG with 37” KO2 and Mopar lift.

Wondering if this tread is to blame?

I’ll report back when I upgrade this jeep with the same Mopar lift and 37” KO2’s ?

winter = 22-23mpg combined
3 other seasons= 24-25 mpg combined

I towed my car trailer with a ford ranger on it and got 18 mpg @55mph on flat land for about 50 miles.

How short are your trips? How much idling are you doing? Diesels are extremely efficient when under load and moving. They're extremely inefficient when it comes to idling and running before getting up to operating temps. In my experience I only see 26+ MPG when on the highway driving for 2+ hours or more. Any city driving, or short trips during the week tend to drag my MPGs down to around 21-23 mpg.

So far, its been short intown trips so I think thats why ...a lot of stop-n-go. I work from home so really haven't taken this on longer road trips yet. But I've noticed its getting better. I'm averaging around 20mpg as of last night (same street driving).

On a side note, had a Tacoma guy complimented me yesterday at Costco ...he didnt even know Gladiator came in a diesel drive train!

Wild peak MT or AT? You basically made a rubicon with lower fenders. Interesting that your closely match my “low MPG” rubicon.

What were your MPGs stock ???

Diesels are actually very efficient idling, they do not have pumping losses like a gas engine. There isn’t a throttle body in the way.

But then again mathematically even a drop of dise per hour of idling is still zero MPG… haha

Must not have been a typical Toyota guy, I’ve never known a yota driver to compliment a jeep.

And NOBODY knows that jeep made diesels!!! And it’s quite an impressive one too! Light years ahead of that 3.6 pentastar (I hate that motor!). I would have been happy with a 2.8 VM Motori engine that came in the old Liberty or the Chevy Colorado (yes, same engine)

Stock 2023 High Altitude with 3,200 miles. I don't tow anything. Average 27.6 mpg. Typically on my 27 mile commute I'll get 30 mpg. The photo was from December.
