Cool, I’ll be interested in hearing what you think.. I’m also thinking about getting another subwoofer instead of just the stock Alpine subwoofer. Looking at either the Kicker Hideaway 46H10 or the Rockville SS10P 10” subwoofers to put behind the drivers side back seat. Both look to have similar dimensions and will fit in that little plastic slot behind the seat..
I had one of those rockville subs in my last truck, it was pretty underwhelming. I ended up swapping it out for a Pyle PLBX8A, and it was much better than the rockville. Gave enough bass to sufficiently supplement a non-amplified base system in a Silverado 1500.

So you had the 10” Rockville, and the 8” Pyle was much better? That says a lot. Did you ever consider the 10” Kicker sub? Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll order one on Amazon and give it a shot..

I don't have any experience with the kicker 10", but yeah, I was not impressed with the rockville. The Pyle one definitely was better in my experience. Can't rule out that maybe I got a dud unit, but it seemed like I had to turn the volume control knob almost all the way up to get anything out of it. The Pyle I usually kept around half volume.

Guys who did this mod, post your experiences! Not sure how this thread got so sidetracked.

I am still contemplating doing the rear pair.

I’m going to do this mod, but not with the HK speakers. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, those HK speakers from mopar look kind of cheap, tiny little magnet, etc. (even at $65/pair), though I am sure they sound better than the stock Alpines because they have a tweeter.
The ones from Terra Acoustics look really nice, but $249 (with the custom tweeter ring), is kind of steep for a pair of 3.5” car speakers..
I just order these Infinity REF307 speakers for $100 (they come with cable adapters for plug and play)
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108R307F/Infinity-Reference-REF307F.html
I should have them installed this weekend.. I’d like to also try the rears at some point, but will probably stay away from the knee speakers because they look to be kind of a PITA to deal with from what I understand (especially the drivers side)..

the magnet is neodymium, that’s why it’s small.

i was hoping to see others experiences on the Mopar speakers. I’m sure the Tera sound great, but I think there’s another thread for those. I too considered going that direction. But these were cheap and actually a quality speaker, plug and play, and cheap!

My speakers should be here Friday. I will put them in as soon as they come in and let you know what I think

In my last Gladiator, I had the 8.4 but no alpine sound and sub. It sounded horrible. I ended up putting 2 Rockford amps, Rockford separates in the front, Rockford coaxials in the sound bar and the Fox duel 10" box with Rockford punch 10s. It sound great. But I didn't like the rear seat being lifted for the sub box.

In my Mojave I have the 8.4 with alpine sound and sub. It sounds pretty good. But as you mentioned the highs weren't crisp. So I don't eant to do a complete system again like my last Gladiator ( Plus I already have to do a full system in my wife's JLU) I am hoping this does the trick. Maybe change the sound bar 3.5" to the same one. The cost of these was like $130 for the pair...

It may be a neodymium magnet, but the whole speaker structure looks pretty cheap.. It may sound fine, but I would hazard a guess that other speakers like the infinity reference line, will produce a better and more balanced overall sound... I’ve been into home audio/theater for over 4 decades (professional installer, etc.) and it’s pretty easy to discern quality components from cheaper ones. That mopar/hk speaker doesn’t even have any sensitivity/efficiency/power specs.. Not to say it does not sound good (to you and others), I’m sure it does (definitely better than the stock speaker). It just looks kind of sketchy by the looks of it and lack of details.
By contrast the Infinity reference speakers I mentioned show detailed specs and have a very high sensitivity rating (will play louder with less amplification).
Here is a pretty cool YouTube video from Crutchfield on the reference line from 2020:

well “looks” and “unknown” specs are nothing to judge a speaker by. Looks don’t always translate to sound and neither do specs. It’s far from a paper cone and foam surround of the old days. I like the robust spider, fused cloth cover to keep crap off my cone. Neodymium magnet is good, looks like a 1” metal tweeter (I prefer a soft dome/silk), 3.5” mid driver with rubber surround and composite cone. Looks like a quality speaker in a OEM-ish package.

I will say however that these things are quite a bit more responsive than the alpine. Bright and detailed as heck, the windshield prolly helps.

I’ve messed with aftermarket speakers for years and I hate messing with them. I currently run 4 Polk MM1 amplified with 60w each RMS and they don’t really excel at anything, but probably the best I’ve installed in a jeep. I Played with infinity through the years, look great in person and paper but don’t quite cut it.

Personally I don’t want to mess with a new car. These plug n play, sound great. I never intend to replace the stock amp. And we’re locked out of crossovers/DSP.

Oem speakers don't usually have any rating specs markings. It just some 3.5" speakers, it doesn't have to looks fancy to sounds good. Now woofers, 6x9 etc would be another story though. I just need a little more high withbthe stock Alpine system.
