Unlike folks that are (understandably!) irritated by it, I actually want my Start/Stop system to function (yeah, I'm a tree hugging, Jeep loving, Prius hating liberal - a weird combination, I know). After an infrequent long road trip, start/stop will start working, but after a couple of days of just doing chores around town, it becomes unavailable. This seems to be a common problem.

Would it be possible to trickle charge the ESS battery? If so, is there an easy way to do this? From looking at the wiring diagram in this forum, there is a post(?) labeled N1 that I think I could hook the positive lead from my solar trickle charger (with the negative hooked to body ground). Is this a bad idea? If not, how do I identify the doohickey labeled N1?

Yep it will work fine.

I don't really care about all the other stuff, but I do consider the ESS system to be an indicator and I do want it working as well.

on your 7-pin plug on the back of the Jeep, the + is always connected straight to the battery and the - is a good ground. I've seen several people wire a battery maintainer/trickle charger to a 7-pin trailer plug with just those two wires and use it as a way to hook your battery maintainer up without having to pop the hood every time. Just don't forget to take it out before driving away!

Adapters like these are available, and make connecting one a little easier.

You folks are the best! Here is my jury-rigged system, which seems to be working. Now I need to buy the plug and such referenced above.

I have the wires draped across the backup camera so I'll see them when I back out of the driveway (in case I forget to remove the system).

A quick way is a 7 pin trailer connector and wire it. I wired one back before there was ones on the market for alternative uses. Main use was for a light duty 2000 pound winch power. Dang that was a long time back. 🙄
Good plan on leaving the wires that way and the solar charger controller. I had a solar charger that killed my 4wheeler battery twice... I just figured the first battery was old and quit, then replaced to kill that one too.
FYI I got a laugh out of your intro bio. :like::LOL:

I let my ESS work a few days before a trip as it checks some computer functions. Then I do.a trickle charge and turn the ESS off for the trip.

Got the 7-pin plug as advised. Stop-start is working!

Does the 7 pin +ive connect directly to aux battery? I am trying to understand when you are on the move then which battery powers the trailer.

When you Charge your JT it’s charges both main and aux batterys, they are hooked together in parallel.

I am leaving my Gladiator for 4 months any advice to keep the batteries up.

If I were to do it for 4 months I'd probably pull the batteries and keep them on a good maintainer.
