My original plan was to buy another manual gladiator in 2027 when i expected either the gladiator to be cancelled in 2028, or the manual to be axed for the new gen. Sort of a 'final edition" manual.

Jeep has decided in their wisdom that I won't be doing that, so I guess my 2022 is hanging around a bit longer than planned. Oh well. Their loss.

It seems that the older I get the more I find that folks don't even know how to operate a manual transmission. Could be why more and more manufacturers are eliminating them as an option.

Keep the manual transmission. Get rid of Stellantis.
Ok, this snide remark is a bit over the dam. But a USA manufacturer should be a wholly owned USA company. Just like Fiat should be just Italian. Culture, politics, etc all come into play.

As for the loss of the manual transmission, I am one of those kids that learned to drive first, with a manual. Had a few of them myself. Last manual I had was in a Corvette. Which became the last one I ever wanted. Often sitting on the 405 freeway in Southern California, doing the stop and go-creep.

Autmatics have come a long way. Love that I stopped replacing throw out bearings and clutch plates. Which kind of made the cost of ownership a horse race with the extra cost of the automatic. I've never had to do any automatic transmission or torque converter replacements even into 200,000+ miles.

Oh all you young whipper snappers...... Wait until you're older and your hips, knees, tendons, & muscles don't work like they used to. You'll be glad to have an Automatic. 😁

Same reason why I'll probably stay with the stock 33's.........cuz the older I get, the harder it is to climb up into anything.

No one cares about manual's, only the old guys and by the time one of these ages to collector status all the old guys will be dead.

Unfortunately the industry is not interested in building for consumers, they now build cars to meet government standards and force these ill conceived ideas of what is good down our throat because it's the only options we have.

Just wait until you can't buy a car and they are all subscription based..... they will be the most boring things out there.

I'm 6'5" and 55yo. All my vehicles in the last 39 years were manuals. After going on vacation and having car rentals and car Ubers, sliding directly onto my seat in my JT on 35's, instead of falling down into a car seat is a welcome change. That extra movement for the left leg, keeps both legs functioning better, less cramping. Finally, vehicle ibuprofen, if you don't have it. 🤣

Well, at 66 I’m one of the old guys. I’ve had very few automatics and didn’t like them much. No MT is a deal breaker to me. I’ll just make my ‘20 Gladiator last. From the sound of it, I’m so decrepit that I’ll only need it a year or two more.

😁 Yea...you're tall...that'd explain the taller vehicle.

I'm only 5'5" and 57.....
I use my slider steps to get in (and wash the roof). When getting out, my legs don't touch the ground....so, using the step and sliding downward. My bolsters are gonna look like crap after a while. 😐

I am not an old guy and I prefer the manual.

If a manual transmission is available (of course they aren't anymore) on a vehicle we are ordering then we buy it with it. There are still some cars with souls but a majority are losing them quickly. This is a huge loss for the Gladiator, and a sign I believe the whole platform will be scrapped soon. Ram has to be itching to sell a new Dakota that will actually sell and the only thing stopping them are Gladiator union contracts. There were only 2 pickups with manuals left after pretty much everyone abandoned them. I can say in my house at least we did our part always buying the 3rd pedal when offered.

I bought my first automatic with my 2020 JTR. I've driven manual since 1985 so I don't miss it, but I completely understand the allure and had the same arguments myself. I am enjoying the auto myself and am happy with it.

I wanted a beefier engine in MT. The 3.6 is just too weak. I guess I’ll swap it out once I’m done with this one.

2022 MT with 50k on it, 19a clutch recall finished

I only know what I’ve read. Not sure I’ve seen 8 speed ( or higher) manuals. Auto’s will shift earlier, smoother, more consistent than manuals. Modern auto’s are not the same as the ones i grew up with.
While all thats true theres just something about being in total control of the engine and the intuitive nature of manual that I’ll never give it up. For me it was so bad that after my manual 15’ mazda 3 hatchback (fun ass car to drive) got totaled in March, i bought a 24’ CX30 (not the car I really wanted but good quality/price for what it is) in auto and ended up selling it by august and just ate the loss.. So in my case, its just the pleasure and joy I get from them that I cant get in autos and after 13+ hour shifts in the ER, that little bit of joy never ceases to perk me right up. :)
