I've got a 500 amp solenoid for my winch. I want to wire it in near the battery, but seem to be lacking room. Has anyone got a description/pictures of what they have done? I've been trying to figure out a nice install and am a bit stumped.

Thanks.

I can help with that. Give me a second to search my photos.

This is where I had it for over two years. When I added my voswitch panel, it moved to the area at the top of the firewall adjacent the fuse panel. Either works though. Make sure your solenoid is rated for continuous use, not just momentary. I bought the one from Warn to be sure. It’s not failed me yet. You can see the current location, kind of, in the second picture. Let’s just say I’ve added some accessories in 3.5 years.

Looking at your first picture, what I have won't fit into that space. But maybe the answer is something other than a cheap Amazon one.

Thank you for the pictures.

I put mine in front of the fuse box.
It has the red connector covers on it.
No mounting bracket. It’s just wedged in there.
I don’t expect it to move anywhere.

Nice looking setup - did you make that bracket?
Thank you. Yes, I used a heat gun and bent a piece of textured ABS. After mounting the solenoid, I added the terminal strip for the aux switch wires. Later, I removed the small nuts. I got tired of dropping and losing the small nuts, so I replaced them with thumb nuts. Changing light configurations and accessories is so much easier without tools.

So I got it installed. Just need some covers for the connections, as I have it covered with electrical tape and it looks crappy. Looking at some of the pictures, I guess I really didn't expect that much room above the battery and I over thought it (again). I ended up using a hinge to mount it, but it is jammed in and not moving. Find something better to cover the electrical and wire in for my compressor in the bed and then go somewhere.

I'll put up a picture once it looks better.
