Im in same boat as most. Used the 12V location wherefactory would go anyway. Never needed the plug in 5 years. Like having it look not out of place.

Interesting. I've not installed my Redarc controller yet (but need to) and was hoping to land a location other than the 12v outlet again. Not that I use that 12v outlet a lot - but every few months it's handy. I've wondered about something around the area to the left of the steering wheel.

I had thought about this area, but the bezel for the control knob would be a bit large for it, perhaps, or access might be tough from what I'm hearing when people go to install the bed inverter switch in that location - pain to access.

That piece pops out real easy with a trim tool. (The headlight switch is a bit harder but doable with patience). That spot is a doable option if you don't plan on installing the oem 115V bed outlet. Nothing back there, it's just a trim piece cover for 24+ JT's without the factory bed outlet, at least it is in my 24 JTRX . Might be a pain to fish the wiring to connect to the trailer brake harness that is back there in some models.

Good info.

I'd not mind an outlet back there, but can't see buying the parts and doing all of the work for something not used a lot. I carry an extension cord with me anyway and can run it out the back window........

Update, I found the Mopar Headlamp Switch module. There are 2 versions with no detail as to what the differences are besides the price. . One version is $90 and the other is $150, now I'm even more seriously considering option 2.

I finally got off my butt and installed my Redarc Controller. Drilling into my jeep was something I was really worried about so I needed time to carefully consider placement.

That you all for the input.

Based on all the advice I decided on the space next to the 12V socket, but not at the 2 o'clock like most others. I decided on this position based on the amount of space on the rear side of the pane. It seemed the lower 5 o'clock position had less obstruction, less plastic to clear away.

Here's an image with more detail. Hope it helps the next guy.

I did the 2 o'clock position. Figured it would be easier to get to the controller if I had something plugged into the 12v socket.

I mounted my Redarc Switch in the cubby using the backing plate provided with the brake controller. looks clean, rather secure, good location and I did not drill any holes on dash area (did in rear of cubby....cant see) and I still have my 12 volt plug.

I posted the video where i found this idea.

Since I have a '24, I had to remove grab bar on passenger side because it is attached to the a/c control panel, then i removed the window switch panel. I didn't disconnect anything, just pulled them out for access. The 1/2 inch hole i drilled into the rear of the cubby was drilled from the front.

NOTE: hole needs to be on the far right side of cubby to help bury the wire behind the switch

Here's how mine came out. simple install.

Works for non-Rubicon and non-Mojave versions only.

I want mine up close to reach in case I need to hit the trailer brakes only, otherwise I had thought of that for the Overland I had.
but I have a Mojave now, so it can't be done that way.
(I got no backing plate but then I bought my controller back in about 2020)

yep cubby, if you have one.

As for location. Your hand on shift knob is natural/familiar position... the knob is a straight reach forward from the shifter knob.

Looks good. No cubby (Rubicon) and a 6 spd shifter in the way on mine, otherwise I would have given this option a thought or two.

I placed mine on the panel below the steering column. I can see it clearly through the lower right hole on my steering wheel. It is far enough away so my leg will not hit it, yet close enough to view and adjust.
