Yesterday I installed and hard wired a Garmin Mini 2 dashcam.

Today I washed it. Got it kinda muddy in Elko last weekend.

Does anyone anymore? My kids still do, but they’re kids, so let them have fun. I love that people enjoy anything about jeeping. I like the badges. Some don’t. No problem. Except angry grills. That’s banned internationally. It voids your warranty and insurance. And allows your spouse a free annulment. And makes it illegal for you to ever enjoy a cheeseburger again. And you’re no longer allowed at six flags.
It's a disease in South Texas, there's ducks on everything non-Jeep, and one guy driving an early 2000's ranger with chrome horns all over it.

Finally got around to changing the transmission fluid 62,200 miles. At least what is in the drain pan got changed. I put in 3quarts of AMSoil trans fluid and 2 3/4 quarts of the Mopar “stuff”. Hoping this will help out in the winter months with cold temps here in the Rockies. We’ll see.

Just curious, what do winter temperatures have to do with it? Help out with what?

You mixed two fluids in the same fill? Why? That seems super risky to me. Your Jeep, but I’d never do that in mine. But I also don’t claim to do oil analysis on my changes. Still. I’m confused as to the goal there. I’m in the Rockies. Not that cold in winters. Nothing compared to the Midwest like WI or MN.

So you mixed trans fluid , you got guts. What did the old fluid and pan look like?

Installed door sills. I really like the look of these. Time will tell if they last. You have to wonder why they ship with so many extra rolls of double sided tape lol.

My speculation would supposedly be a lower cold flow pour point.

  • Amsoil (Blue Label) ATF has a pour point of -65C.

  • ZF 8/9 Speed has a pour point of -42C

Give the total fluid capacity of 9.5 qts, that leaves a mix ratio of 6.5 qts (68.42%) for ZF 8/9 ATF and 3 qts (31.58%) for Amsoil ATF.

If my math is correct, that in theory should give the mix a potential -49C pour point.

The problem is most petroleum standards organizations caution against mathematical calculations of different miscible fluids for trying to calculate pour point since it is not truly linear and to have any mixed fluids ASTM tested for actual pour point.

Yeah. That’s not going to work I wouldn’t think. And who cares anyway. In the CO Rockies we occasionally get to 0 Fahrenheit. It’s not cold here. And I mean occasionally. The average winter day is between 10 and 35 F at 8600’.

Bingo - I was thinking he'd come out with the perceived issue that doesn't really even exist, but that's what I was trying to get - that tiny amount in the grand scheme of things - it's not like mixing two different fluids with different viscosities and getting something exact in the middle or that can easily be calculated on paper.

And that would have been my next point - what problem? It's a solution looking for a problem and likely someone in some forum somewhere said that the stock fluid was a problem and that something different should be used. Tossing crap in, guessing, when there isn't a problem.

It gets far far colder here in the winters, and even worse in MN above us. There are people in AK and Canada with these using the stock fluids - and they aren't concerned about the pour point or "oh, gee, this fluid will be too thick in the winter".
It can be well below 0 here for a week, where daytime highs never touch 0 and yet every vehicle we've ever had has had no issues with a transmission in the winter.

So you two went right where I figured on - there is no problem with the ZF fluid in cold climates, These are designed for and sold to markets where the temps get a lot colder than Colorado.

I see a solution looking for a problem, and at some risk.
Likely read too much from some other forum.
