A few years ago, CJ Off Road/CJ Pony Parts did a salvage yard 5.7 HEMI swap from a RAM into a Wrangler JL when the factory 3.6L got hydro locked after ingesting some water. They did a video series on it and while not a 100% bolt for bolt "how to", it is a good primer to show what is involved.So.. I am currently saving for a no thrills 5.7 swap. Keeping my tranny and just a simple swap.
Should I expect any hiccups in the process..?
This reminds me....does anyone know the current status of Dakota Customs? Seems like they had a lot of the components for this sort of thing figured out, but their website had expired and there was essentially no way to contact them last time I looked into this. I have a couple 5.7's out of different vehicles waiting on a home at this point. Would be nice to make a plan for those I guess.A few years ago, CJ Off Road/CJ Pony Parts did a salvage yard 5.7 HEMI swap from a RAM into a Wrangler JL when the factory 3.6L got hydro locked after ingesting some water. Sweet baby jesus…..Picked it up Friday, 4 weeks to the day I dropped it off. I literally couldn't be happier with this AMW kit. And being able to run 87 octane with it, to me, makes it perfect.

The Googles says they are out of business. Sold to some company called "Revolution Paradox" last year and they have dissolved Dakota Customs. This reminds me....does anyone know the current status of Dakota Customs?
Bummer. That's a lot of fabrication and R&D I really didn't want to do.The Googles says they are out of business. Sold to some company called "Revolution Paradox" last year and they have dissolved Dakota Customs.
For whatever reason, currently the aftermarket totally revolves around companies selling an absurdly bloated package including every nut, bolt, and fluid you need for the cost of another vehicle. The Googles says they are out of business. $30k sounds really expensive until you realize that's the installed and warrantied price. My buddy got a quote from a local shop to replace his blown 2.0t for $17k. I'm not sure how big the market would really be for $10k in adapters, motor mounts, and wiring harness to DIY the swap where you have to source everything else and end up with 0 warranty. You'd still be $15k in with a higher mileage used engine or $20k with a new one. If you can afford $20k you can probably make $30k work even if it takes you and extra 6 months to a year saving. For whatever reason, currently the aftermarket totally revolves around companies selling an absurdly bloated package including every nut, bolt, and fluid you need for the cost of another vehicle.
Dakota probably were victims of their own success, offered components, people could afford, and got overwhelmed with business, couldn't scale.
Warranties cost money. There's always some risk no matter how good a job you do.$30k sounds really expensive until you realize that's the installed and warrantied price. Its good to see a dreamerGet me a Cal licence plate for it and I'll write the check.
Guess I should throw out my "VOTE EARLY, VOTE OFTEN" bumper sticker?Warranties are for people who couldn't fix an election if their brother was the governor.
Explains why so many Gladiator people are obsessed with them.
