Hello, just picked up a new to me 21 Gladiator Willys. I am looking at getting some feedback on anyone running the AEV spacer lift. Would it be beneficial to upgrade to no lift shocks at the same time? Any off road input with the spacer?

I ran the AEV 2 inch spacer lift for nearly 2 1/2 years before recently upgrading to AEV's full dual sport 2.5 suspension.

But solely speaking of the spacer lift itself I think it's an awesome kit for the money. I wouldn't say that it's absolute necessary to upgrade the shocks as well since this kit is meant to work with the stock shocks however, if you are doing the install yourself, you could do like I did and pick up some Rubicon shocks and a couple that with it.

but nonetheless I can't speak highly enough about that kit. I even purchased one for my son's Wrangler recently. Off-roading I never had issues but at the same time it's only a 2 inch lift so I knew/know my limitations.

here's a few older pics of it on mine before upgrading

The willys shocks are junk. The AEV kit was great on the mojave and those shocks are worth retaining via shock extensions. For your situation I'd install the kit without the shock extensions and then replace the stock shocks with 1-3" lift shocks. You'll gain significant suspension travel going that route.

I think a spacer lift is great (can't speak of AEV - but I have a spacer lift), but I agree - might as well upgrade the shocks on a Willys. On my Sport, three of the four were pissing fluid by 25,000 miles.

Okay I see what you’re saying, this might be the route I’m going to take. I thought the Willy’s shocks came from the jl rubicon, maybe I’m wrong?

The rubicon shocks are unimpressive as well. And they are short travel compared to almost anything aftermarket. With the 2" bump stop extensions that come in the AEV kit you can fit metalcloak rocksport reds with 12"+ of travel. The stock shocks are less than 8" stroke if I remember right.

AEV 2" spacer lift on my wife's Mojave X. Love it. Make sure you purchase and install the geometry correction brackets also to correct the caster.

I have the AEV 2" spacer lift on my 21 Mojave and I used their shock relocation brackets to retain the shocks and im running 35x12.50s. Very happy with the set up as my daily driver and light trails and camping. You didnt mention how many miles are on the Willys? Maybe time for new shocks anyways

Noted. Just looked them up, they are fairly inexpensive, definitely seem like an upgrade to the oem. I did see they offer a level kit as well with new springs. Might just make sense for me to go that route, going to do my research on the leveling kit. Thanks for the input man, I appreciate it. Sweet rig btw

It’s a 21 with 45k miles. It does drive pretty smooth on road, actually was kinda impressed with the drive, Ive driven a jk before as my pops has one. This definitely drives and feels a lot better. It has 285/70/17 K02s. Only had it for 2 weeks now and been loving it so far.

appreciate it. It's changed slightly since those pics from a suspension standpoint.

but the tires are Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLTs in 295/70/18 which is basically a 35 equivalent
