2001 TJ, 2012JGC Overland, easy peasy. Stinking aux battery system, should be like my Ram diesel with 2 real, visible batteries.

My 2021 has that stop/start message, has had it since September when I left it in accessory mode while towing behind my motor home for 2 days and the batteries died. It gives me no issues so I have ignored it.

My Question: DOES THE OBD II READER Above any fault codes?

Update. I dropped the Jeep off at the dealership Wednesday night since it was covered under warranty. The tech said it pulled 3 codes and they all led back to a bad Aux battery. I never spoke to the tech directly. This is per the lady that does the check ins. They tested both batteries and the main battery was fine and they charged until full. They replaced the Aux battery with a new one and said they made sure it was charged completely, reset the IBS and tested again and all is okay. The Jeep was ready Friday afternoon. I picked it up Saturday morning since no money was due. Their service department was not open to speak directly to the tech or find out what codes. I did ask why the Aux battery went bad so quickly and was told that it must be a bad battery, lol

I have a battery tender attached full time to my 67 Camaro in the garage. I will pick up another one to use on the Gladiator to at least try and help prolong the battery life. I will probably go with the NOCO or Ctek. The easiest method for maintaining the battery for me is with the trailer plug adapter. Has anyone used this one or something similar they can recommend?

Daily driver, 30 minutes each way. Both batteries replaced last year at the dealership. The voltage is currenly reading 12.78.

I had emissions done on it Saturday. My key FOB stopped working at the emissions place when I tried to leave and would not lock or unlock the door. I got in and the truck cranked with no issues and has been fine until tonight. I got into it tonight to drive home from work and the Stop/Start Unavailable Service Stop/Start System came on. I drive it 5 to 6 days per week. I cannot take it to the Dealership until next week and nervous driving it at this time. Dumb question, but coud the service center have done anything to it? Logic says no. Just grasping and high anxiety taking over. This is not the week for it as I am short staffed and missing any time at work is not an option.
A little late to the party but I was in the same boat. Had my batteries replaced at the end of January in 2025. My stop/start quit working about a month or so ago and at times I would get a warning that the aux switches would not work temporarily because the battery was charging. I drive 15 miles each way to work daily which should be enough to keep things charged. Also recently drove about 1000 miles in 5 days and the aux still was not charged enough for stop/start to work so I took it to the dealer this past Thursday. They replaced both batteries and said the charging system was working properly. Guess I will see how long these last.

Not counting on it. Bought in late 2023 and this is the third set of batteries and I drive it all the time. It never sits. When the warranty runs out I will make a decision on what I am going to do. EIther aux battery delete or better batteries.

Why not do better batteries now? You'll save tons of time and frustration and have zero impact on your warranty.

Because the dealer just replaced both of them 2 days ago under warranty. Have a few expenses to take care of first.

Try disconnecting the negative cables and separately charging each battery.

Usually, the message you are getting indicates the Aux Battery failed the startup test.

Maybe check with the dealer and see if there is a warranty on the batteries.
I'm having battery issues in the cold with my Glad, it's manufacture date is 12-2023, I bought it in May '24, and the dealer says there is no battery warranty. You would think it would be at least like a 36 month battery warranty and give a pro rate, but no. Apparently it's common practice in the auto industry to only give 12 months on the original battery or batteries (Aux ESS battery) so it's not just a Chrysler thing. Doesn't that make you want to jump up and buy an OEM from the dealer to replace it?....NO.

I'm letting them do the diagnostic under warranty, then since I'm almost out of warranty (36k miles) I'll do the ESS delete and only change the main battery. Thank you government for requiring these ESS systems....

You may need one with a fuse.My Battery tender came with a 7.5 amp fuse in line to the battery.

I went through something similar on my 24 JTR. Basically unavailable. I took it to the dealership twice before they changed the Aux battery. It worked for a week then unavailable again, this time they said it was the battery IBS and changed it. It worked for a couple days and then unavailable again. I would the main battery and it seemed ok but if I charged it with an AGM charger it would work fine for a couple days but if I let it sit for a day the unavailable message would come back. The dealership would find nothing. Finally I just went and purchased a new main battery myself and have never had an issue again. Kind of sucks but I am a believer now of if you have to change one you might as well change them both.

The dealer you were talking to is misinformed. The factory batteries are covered under the 36mo/36k mile basic warranty. Only the items specifically noted in the exceptions list fall under the shortened 12mo/12k mile warranty. See your warranty booklet HERE.

I also have a 2023 and they have replaced my batteries twice under warranty. Didn't pay a penny and it's not the dealer I purchased the truck from. Interesting that yours is being difficult. May want to go to another dealer if you have that option.
