Not to add fuel to the fire, but is there any outlet temp sensor in the HVAC system itself? I think it only monitors OAT and cabin temp. Which means it will just heat or cool until the cabin is at the setpoint, not the discharge air. This is how my GC works, it seems like there is no real "manual model" like back in the day with a slider.

I agree it's kind of annoying, but typical of how cars are becoming automated these days. Hell, Tesla won't even let you aim your vents without a computer in the M3 haha

That was my question...............

I left my JT at a dealer today to have the tonneau dealt with. I got a loaner- a Compass. It was set to max - fan on high, temp on high, etc. because things FROSTED heavy overnight.
I got in, set the fan back to 4, set the temp down to 68 and left it on manual for most of the half hour trip. It blew hot air almost the whole time. I changed the air to come out foot and dash - they had it dash vents only. After a while I noticed the air coming out of the vents wasn't as hot - - the cabin was warmed up nicely. Seemed to warm up better with the foot and dash vents both going. But it was hot coming out the vents until the cabin temp in the whole cabin felt good. It worked better set on foot/dash outlets. Makes sense - dash only would blow hot air in the middle - and heat rises so the sensor if down low wouldn't be triggered until the cabin temp was really high at face level. But coming out down below, too - the temperature would be more even throughout and that seemed to be the ticket. Once the cabin reached 68, the air coming out wasn't so hot.

I then set it to auto and everything grayed out and the air coming out was hardly moving at all, and the cabin felt comfortable the whole rest of the way home. So I was right - the cabin HAD warmed up to 68 and the air coming out in manual had cooled off a bit because the cabin temp at the sensor had been reached.

In short - that Compass worked exactly as my JT - and as my wife's GC and as my Chevy did.

I get what you're saying.... the one time I think it's worthy is when it's a safety issue. That steering thread seems legit.

Yeah, I have problems with the HVAC - but it's an easy, altho a temporary one, by voice command, e.g., "Yes dear". Come to think about it, I've had that problem with every vehicle I've had.

These Gladiators have a known HVAC system problem that is still ongoing. Visit the thread within this forum. Looking back, I would not have purchased this gladiator if desired cabin temperature cannot be achieved.

Sorry you have a problem but my LE HVAC works great.

C’mon, every vehicle make has issues. I’m tired of thread subjects like this from unhappy people. “Warning” buyers of potential problems is like warning people about the flu.

I’m sympathetic but there are pathways to happiness including warranty claims, lemon laws and selling the vehicle outright.

I agree with your warning comment. There is, however, an issue and mine certainly has it as well. A mix of fiddling with the fan speed, termperature settings and 'auto' button eventually seem to temporarily solve the problem. My guess that it's going to be a software fix and until Jeep engineers upload a patch for the dealers to download to us, we're going to have to just deal with it.

It's a sporadic, inaccurate system, for sure... but hardly something to "warn" people about, though.

But only on SOME vehicles, not all.

Mine is ok, my wife's is ok, the Compass I drove home as a loaner is "as I expected it" and works fine as far as I'm concerned.
It's like other "flaws" being pointed out, or reported - some have it, most don't.

So far no one has done a poll to get numbers so it's all speculation at this point. But even a poll is only a small limited unscientific sampling -
not everyone here will see it,
of those that do, not all will respond to it,
this forum has a small sub-set of Jeep JT owners vs. the whole of all owners.

My JT is working fine. It works the same as my wifes 2017 Grand Cherokee.

Mine also has the AC issue. Really sucks. I agree when you turn it on or off of auto it seems to reset. I also seem to think it’s measuring cabin temp instead of outlet temp. Makes no sense to ask for 72 degrees and get pummeled with 85 degree air.

Because you are setting expected cabin temp. If you don't like the hot air, set the temp down to 65.
On the other hand - uh, you DO have control of the vents, how far open they are or are not, what direction they point or don't point and whether or not the air comes out in your face or on your feet.
Choices - don't like the hot air on your face, turn or close the vent or -- MANUALLY choose feet heat.

I have an Overland and I haven't had any issues with AC or heat. I don't use the Auto setting because I like to be more in control of the fan speed. I do notice that the AC (and heat) turns off when the Auto-Engine-Shutoff kicks in at traffic lights, but it's doing what it's supposed to.

Honestly. Manual does not mean that the temperature you pick is what comes out your vents. Manual means that it disconnects the temp from the fan and from the vent choice. Simple as that. In auto, when you change the temp, the other parts adjust accordingly to efficiently achieve that temp. In manual, when you change the temp, the system attempts to get to that temp using the manually selected fan and vent setting that you have set. Either way, both auto and manual don't take into account which direction you have your vents aimed or if you don't like hot air in your face or if you're pregnant.

Maybe instead of what ever this thread is, we should start a thread called "How to use your climate control, no its not a jeep thing".
