So explain the logic of how a new steering box turned into new tires? Totally curious
Service writer needed new tires, so under the guise of ‘we’ll check everything but the real cause’ the tires were replaced under warranty to verify it wasn’t the tires. The old tires went on the SW’s truck... just guessing.

Nice! Yep I bet that happens a lot with shops... as long as it’s in our favor it’s cool, lol.

You know I was thinking about you guys running lift kits and other aftermarket parts on your rigs. I am not sure how exactly they could actually deny you this TSB. Wouldn’t it almost be like denying any future engine work if you decided to say upgrade the serpentine belt with a non-OEM belt or use a non-OEM oil filter? It would be pretty close to the same thing. Oh, you added a decal so we can’t warranty the paint... Your window has a non-OEM tint, so your claim for a bad window regulator is denied. I do understand the extra drag of larger tires and how it isn’t quite the same and how a 4” lift done poorly could also do the same. But all this pushback from some dealers on aftermarket suspension parts is nonsensical. Seems to be the very thing the Magnuson-Moss act was written to prevent. Which if memory serves me, was about voiding factory warranties on computers because of non-OEM RAM upgrades. Now being a computer guy I would say having a motherboard issue due to bad RAM chip is a more real scenario then having an issue with the steering gear because you run a different axle or different tie rod ends, etc.

I am just saying.... it is all whacktasticjackasserie followed by a bit of buffonerishness and other similar made up words which make more sense then some of these dealers decisions.

I dropped my Gladiator off at the dealership this morning to get the new steering box/bolts/computer flash. Should be ready by lunch...

Does anyone here have authoritative information on the specific design differences between the old and new steering gear? I.e. what actually fixes this in the new box? Is the material secondary to the gearing design or is this that aluminum flexes more than iron?

Just got back from the dealer after the getting it installed. It was out of alignment from the steering box install. Now it tracks straight and steers great. I was the first one they did, but they did do great.

Also, they updated the PCM for mis-fire issues and fuel tank vent issues (didnt experience any and didnt know they were doing it) and honestly the truck drives better than new after these 2 changes.

Shout out to Hall, they had the gladiator tech (who owns one) drive around with me to make sure its all fixed.

Got our Rubicon back yesterday. Box came in one day, bolts the next. They got it finished up quickly, did an alignment and took it took on a drive to verify.

Ours wasn't terrible, but it had play on center and needed constant left input to keep it form changing lanes to the right. Now... it's so much better. It will still follow the road crown to the left or right if you take your hands off the wheel completely. But no more pull or wander.

My dealer's service dept was great. They gave me no hassles and ordered the parts the same day I had them look at it. I would have been back on the road the following day had the bolts arrived with the box. Can't say enough good things about Roseville Jeep, up here in MN.

Today I wore my best button up shirt, drove to the dealer for my "preliminary lookover" with the TSB with highlighted, "if customer describes this, fix it". The guy that checked me in was very nice, they never even drove it, just pulled it in, checked over the truck, updated some PCM thing and said they ordered the parts, should be here FRIDAY.

So glad I didn't have to start the day off nasty. Don't take, "only can order 1 per week", "its a jeep thing" "test drive seems normal" as an answer. You drive a $40-60,000 truck and it should not wander. Ask for manager, contact @JeepCares or go to another dealer. I'd drive 2 hours to a new dealer for my truck to drive like it should!

Good luck to everybody. :like:
Good news, got a call this morning, parts are in, took about 24 hours, and they can install next tuesday, planning for 2hours of work. YIPPY!

Just got off the phone with my dealership, they are replacing the box but per the tsb mentions nothing about alignment and saying i have to eat that cost. Is this the case with anyone else?

If it needs an alignment after the work they completed, then they should cover it. If it needs an alignment and has LOW miles on the clock... well, they should fix it as well as it wasn't right to begin with.

Mine mentioned the alignment being off and then said they took care of everything. My paperwork didn't say an alignment was completed... but everything seems right. It drives straight, doesn't wander, my wheel is straight. So maybe the toe is off and they didn't actually do an alignment? Toe is the only thing that can actually be adjusted anyway (other than centering steering wheel).

I had to eat the cost of my alignment. Mine was even a little out and required a slight adjuatment. It's 2 weeks old.
FCA denied the warranty claim.
