I just got called from FCA (Jeep Premium Care) and they told me that my part would be arriving in a week. Apparently, not all orders were cancelled. My dealership told me mine was cancelled, but FCA said that was a generic notice to all dealerships, my last part would be there in a week. The current TSBs are being expedited/prioritized and at least mine will be completed. They even followed up with an email

You are SMART ...

Mine was done early ... I got in the first week of the TSB ... And my dealer service department ordered and installed the WRONG PART NUMBER ... Brilliant ...

I now have a new steering box for a JL Wrangler which has a different gearing ratio and steers rather oddly ... Not dangerous but definitely not the right part. Its easy to tell ...

So, I've been waiting for over 2 months to get the correct part installed ...

Stay as far as you can from this situation until they get their stock sorted ...
I agree! Until they get the right parts and stock sorted out, it's best to hold off. I got my JT in June 2019. A couple months later, the recall for the driveshaft came out and I was told that I needed to get the driveshaft replaced. Since I wasn't having a problem, I decided to get it. A few months went by and the dealer told me that I had no choice but to get the driveshaft replaced. Well, guess what? They got the wrong driveshaft and they found out when they started the replacement. Put my old driveshaft back in and had to wait another month for the correct driveshaft.

So, I agree with you. Until they get their mess sorted out, Hold off for awhile.

This is not just a Jeep thing. I had the same BS from Nissan on my Titan XD Diesel, time and time again. Didn't matter how many times I called Nissan North America they never addressed the issue. That's why I sold the truck and will NEVER buy a Nissan product again. This will come back to haunt them at some point. I have said this before, the best thing to happen to the JT is Fords new Bronco. Competition always encourages improvement....

Wanders a little = Incorrect ... This is 2020 ... No vehicle should wander.

Some are worse than others, some are real bad, others not so much ... Some dangerous, some not so much ... Many are not "as good as they should be" for any vehicle. Especially one that is $50k ...

Some will choose to live with it, Some wont ...

In any event, if you notice it enough to make the statement "it wanders a little", you should probably get it checked out ...

Or you could ask your wife ... It seems that the wives on this forum tend to notice this stuff and tolerate it less ...

My 2 cents ...

We got our JT a month ago, used LE
During the test drive I noticed a pull and a little wonder. I had already read about the TSB so I knew there was a solution. It’s not too bad so I’ll wait till Jeep has it figured out

Absolutely. This isn't 1940. No vehicle should "wander" or pull or have play in the steering. Granted it's not a Grand Cherokee with tight-ratio rack and pinion, but those are also SHORT vehicles.

Mine is now as good as my 2011 Chevy was and I have to say a pleasure to drive. No wander, very easy to keep it between the lines, want to take an exit, move the wheel just a little and you are going the direction you want.

My wife drove from Indiana to Iowa - the first 3/4 of the trip and Indiana between Fort Wayne and Illinois is quite flat, the main highways are straight and even and yet her comment was "I hope there's no cops behind us as they'll think I'm drunk".
Another time she said "can't you keep this thing between the lines" (I thought I was doing ok)
Then she drove it part way back from Spirit lake to Des Moines - again, flat and straight on those NW Iowa highways - her comment "man, this thing is hard to keep going straight" or words to that effect.
So I took it to the dealer, they decided it had a problem.
In this day and age there is no reason, no excuse for a truck like this to not handle like any OTHER truck or any SUV with a recirculating ball type steering sector. It should steer fine, especially on decent paved roads.
This is now my easiest to drive vehicle. (and we have two Grand Cherokees, an SX4 with ALL NEW steering and suspension, and a 73 Javelin with all new steering and suspension parts.

I realize this won’t help the majority, but given the delay I’ll share my recent experience I had this past weekend.

I have a Mopar lift, Synergy brace and track bar, and 37/13.50- 20 tires. I also have the original aluminum steering box. I’ve had no steering issues, but noticed recently that my JTR was wandering a bit on the highway at speed. My paranoia told me that obviously my steering box was wearing and becoming problematic. I’m getting ready to tow my ‘64 Corvette from Atlanta to NY next weekend and yesterday I was going through everything like fluids, lube, torque spec and tire pressure. My tire pressure was consistently 27psi and I raised it back to 32psi where it originally tested best. On my way back home, all the wandering was gone. She tracks straight as an arrow with no play in the steering.

While this won’t help most of you, it is worth inspecting as you wait for your new box.

Just called my dealer. They seem on top of it and have it on order. But no ETA from FCA on any of these things. Pretty much they were restricted to one a week, then the process changed and now they ordered all of them but have no ETA on getting anything.

Here is the thing ... FCA told me (5 times) a specific date and each time that date came and went ...

Now I don't want to be a pessimist so I will assume that they are working to improve this and that things have changed ...

My installation is Wednesday 11/25. The first thing Ill do is have them SHOW ME the part so I can see it with my OWN EYES since last time 2 or 3 people didn't check and then put the wrong part in ...

Next, Ill go over my expectations:

1) Install the right part (they didn't last time)
2) Verify that my steering wheel isn't cocked 20 degrees to the right when done (It was last time)
3) Verify my power steering fluid level. (It was left LOW last time) ...

Not all of these are FCA issues ... In fact most are bad DEALER issues ...

In any event, there are 4 steps to the TSB. FCA got 1 wrong and my dealer got 2 of the others wrong ...

So, Ill have to perform the QA side of things myself it seems ...

All this being said, it is great that people are getting dates. For me the dates have not meant much and I sincerely hope that they do for you ... If FCA has raised the bar on this then great ... It is about time and definitely welcome to see it happening ...

Well, the dates for my steering gear have been given to me and than not met/moved 5 separate times now ... I just got off of the phone with my dealer and was told that the most recent "order" was cancelled by FCA ... I demanded that he give me more information ...

He read to me the text of some corporate directive that basically said the following:

"All orders for TSB xxxxxxx for Jeep Gladiator steering gears have been cancelled. A new ordering process will be announced based on VIN. This is being done to ensure the highest level of customer service ... "

Yeah right ...

So if anyone "THINKS" that they have a steering gear coming, guess what ... Ya don't ...

Please call and complain LOUDLY as Ill be doing ...

These people are building and delivering NEW 2021 models WITH THE NEW STEERING GEARS that they OBVIOUSLY HAVE IN STOCK while they collect monthly payments from all of us customers whose MONEY THEY ALREADY HAVE ...

Totally shameless corporate BS ...

We are now dangerously close to lemon law or other legal territory ...

And forget Jeep Cares ... They are just in the middle of this as well .. Ive talked to them at length about this ... They CAN DO NOTHING and privately agree with us while towing the company line WHATEVER THAT IS ...

Maybe a little communication would help as opposed to the stealth tight lipped silence. It would go a long way FCA !!!

Everyone can deal with reality ... But stringing people along is just bad policy ...
I got the same response after mine was cancelled. My dealer did help me by putting me in touch with FCA, who in turn connected me with Jeep Cares. They have put in a expedite order to send the part to my dealer. I have a case# and I'll update to this thread once I hear about timing to get it in there.

Dont forget 90% of you never drove solid axle rigs in yr life much less a jeep. heard about this steering problem via internet and just think you gotta have the new box if you actually need it or not. I honestly dont blame them.
Ya know, I don't give a ripped sh!t what I've driven in my life...Jeep, Ford, Dodge, whatever. If it ain't right, and a fix comes out that will make it right, I don't care where I heard it from. It should be fixed!!

I appreciate the hell out of the information I get from this forum. But I don't appreciate folks looking down their nose at others that may or may not have "driven a solid axle rig" in their life. Rant over.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the ones who don't need it but think they gotta have it just because. All of them aren't bad

Solid axle doesn't matter.
Not for decades. You want a real luxury vehicle that steers great and has a really nice ride? Get a WJ. They ride very nice, steer like a car, women love them too - and they are solid axle. A lady I worked with, who with her husband, had VERY high end expensive tastes, said hers was "a 4 wheel drive Cadillac". But it can't be - it's solid axle LOL
