Those replace the front speakers? Id like to do an audio upgrade to the speakers but want to minimize cutting
Yes these are made by FCA and are drop in plug and play did this on my JL and now my JT so order 2 sets one for the dash and one set for the sound bar will be the best $125 total you’ll spend

Looks great! How did you get it to set correctly with all the angles and curves?

I got the kit on Etsy, and had no problem putting the tailgate part on, but I could not figure out how to get the part around the taillights to go on properly. Ended up ruining the vinyl piece for the right side and just threw away the other piece.
Knifeless tape down before the vinyl was the key. Lots of opposing curves on the section around the taillights. I'd be lying if I said that part was easy!

Installed the Alpine speaker upgrade for the overhead soundbar. I bought the Alpine SPV-65-JLT from Crutchfield, as it was about $50 cheaper than Amazon, and Crutchfield includes the Metra adapters, which are needed for the JTs (and JLs) that have the premium Alpine audio system. The instructions aren't the best. I've had to watch a couple YouTube videos and looked through forum threads.

Before:

I used the included template and a pick to trace the new pattern. This worked very well for me as a pen, pencil, or marker was harder to see (irregular surfaces). The scribe/pick leaves a good mark to see and feel.

To cut the hole, I tried a jigsaw, but it was much harder to control, especially with the soundbar still installed. Then I tried an electric hot knife, but it produced toxic fumes, and the cuts immediately fused back together (molten plastic). Instructions, YouTubers, and other forum members recommended a reciprocating air saw. Others have also removed the soundbar. I left mine in place and used a box cutter (utility knife) instead. It took a bit more muscle, but it made much less of a mess, and it took about 15-20 minutes per side

The template is not the best. I had to deviate and cut a bit more to avoid some awkward shapes. This is what the removed sections looked like. You can actually remove quite a bit more than what the template calls for. The new speaker's gasket just needs to have a surface to seal.

This is what the hole looks like. Yes, not pretty. If you have OCD (like me), turn away and don't think about how sausages are made.

The new Alpine speaker comes with a crossover. If you have premium audio, like mine, disconnect the wires from the woofer (just move them aside) and attach the Metra adapters.

Connect to the soundbar harness.

The resulting sound is AMAZING! Deeper, fuller bass, crisper highs, and looks great.

Wish I had seen this before I ordered my SPV-65s...... good news is that Crutchfield sent them out after I called and referenced this issue. When you order these be sure that you are getting the 72-6514 harness as well if you have the "premium" system. I am hoping these make a world of difference as otherwise it will be a very underwhelming use of $500.

That is correct, if you have the premium system, you will need the Metra 72-6514 (which Crutchfield includes) to bypass the built in crossover in the SPV-65-JLT. Made a huge difference for me. Hope you hear the improvement as well. Good luck.

Thanks - this is awesome. I've basically been doing that but I just thought I must be doing something wrong. thanks - BTW great chart - I'm a visual learner and that was super helpful thank you! Man I love this forum!
Glad I could help! I thought the same thing initially, then I saw that chart and it made alot more sense seeing the two overdrives and comparing that to the auto. My rule of thumb is if I'm accelerating the rpms need to be above 2k or 2,200, then cruising in whatever gear gets me below 2k but maintains the speed without my right foot going to the floor and my head bobbing trying to Fred Flintstone the truck lol

Ha! - I honed in on the 2K-ish threshold as well!

Yes the premium audio only means you get the crossover and sub woofer the speakers are all the same on every model
Wow. Thanks....does the head unit have more power though?

what is a crossover? Im seeing it here in the thread and have no clue what y’all are talking about...

A crossover is a circuit that separates out the audio frequencies and targets them to the appropriate speakers - highs to tweeters, mid range to mid ranges and lows to woofers.

nice did you take the wheels off to pop those out
Thanks! No need to remove wheels - it was easy. I used a rounded end knife from the kitchen with a piece of thin cloth around the end of it. Just slipped it in the crack and the cap popped out easy as pie.

...agree...easy to pry off the speaker cover, remove two screws, pull speaker out, remove speaker connector, install in reverse with new speakers. I was able to tell the difference by changing the corner dash speakers with the Crutchfield online recommendations. No cutting involved.

Guys, my DM’s and such are blowing up with tuning questions. I dont mind it one bit, but do i just need to do a vid on this topic?
Yes please if your so kind! Especially what is advisable for those of us with zero tuning knowledge, what to avoid or look for in products or any recommendations for simple upgrades or what can we do to make the most of an intake and exhaust.
