dealership I bought my jlur from and some other vehicles had the 5k dealer markup on new gladiators. I went to go test drive one and the salesman asked if he could run numbers and see if we can get a deal. I told him to erase the dealer markup and then you can run numbers. He declined to do that so I bought from their competitor for less than msrp.

Dealer tried to convince me that they "could get in trouble just for showing a customer the invoice price" and they were unwilling to budge. This was going to be custom order and they of course had about $1600 in fees they wanted to charge on top of something like 5-10% over invoice. Whatever dudes. I'll take a road trip to TN or something instead.

Makes me think of all the people overpaying and thinking they got a deal out there. If it wasn't for internet forums like this, I'd have had no idea what fair pricing even was.

I bought mine at Hill-Kelly Dodge Jeep in Pensacola FL. No added fluff Straight $300 dealer fee. MSRP has nothing to do with the sale. NOTHING... It's a Jeti mind trick. Go off sticker. Minus any rebates you qualify for. Destination charge is part of the sticker price. I had to drive 3 hrs to get a good deal. 4 dealers that were close were adding all kind of BS. MSRP plus market adjustment etc. All bullshit. Invoice pricing is great but hard to find.

Here in Phoenix there are quite a few dealers that add a bunch add-ons. Have seen up to $2K on one lot with all of the normal finance gotchas already equipped. And of course not listed on the site. Only when you get there. Though one did put in their fine print all of the random things they put on. But of course again not listed for the online price.

“All new cars purchased from Courtesy Jeep have Connect & Protect Tech for $699, Window Tint for $499, Lifetime Nitrogen in tires for $169.”

that's the low end here in So Cal ...I was at Huntington Beach Jeep yesterday and took a picture of the most ridiculous dealer add on list I've seen yet....all of this stuff is complete nonsense and it was on every jeep on the lot....$4500 in dealer add ons lmao

Yeah, the folks I got my jeep from talked about all the different ways the other local dealers pile things on. I had them get the jeep I wanted from another local dealership and they showed me the window sticker that other dealer originally put on there with $2000+ worth of add-ons(ei paint protection) that was not listed on their web page pricing. I bought that exact same jeep from my dealer without any of those add-ons.

Sucks about HB. I bought my JKU from there in 2013 for $27K. That was the price on the internet and that was the price I paid. Since I had such and easy buying experience that time, I emailed them about a gladiator and they refused to give me a definitive price. And just like that, they lost that sale.

I didnt catch anything this time. Dealer was fine on my jeep, so much so we bought my woman one as well.

Previously? Goodness.

-destination bs
-altering the price back up and interest rate back up and adding years to financing to hide it
-leaving price the same and altering payment schedule
-adding tire services

The list is endless.

Yes. Though do be aware that Jeep.com factors in incentives on their build site. It’s currently $1,500 cash back (which has been going on all Sport trims for a while now) plus $645 I couldn’t figure out that will differ from your dealer’s MSRP. The invoice will be lower, of course and that’s the number these percentages will come off.

This is why I always negotiate the “out the door price” and get them to tell you what portion of that OTD price is taxes. Only way you can compare apples to apples. Taxes change state to state. This way they can’t add some bs charge to the price.

Many people think they are getting a “great” deal at a percentage below invoice , but what they don’t realize is the dealer pads the prices with other bs fees and destination charges to make up for it. It’s all a numbers game to them.

If you ever hear a dealer saying they are loosing money on a deal it’s a complete lie. Either 1) they are making money or 2) they are getting a kickback on volume of sales. NO DEALER WOULD SELL A VEHICLE AT A LOSS.

Adding a destination charge on top of a destination charge is just BS.

Ask for OTD price Minus taxes. Once again, taxes should not vary unless you cross state lines. Get an emailed quote before you drive long distances. Be careful many dealers have a technique where they admit they made a mistake and then say they have to charge a higher price. I bet 8 of 10 buyers will already be emotionally vested and just buy at their raised price because they told their friend, wife or kids they were pulling the trigger. Don’t be afraid to walk away!

This is a great thread. I need to go back and like each post. It’s unfortunate we have to spend so much time and effort to not get screwed when buying a vehicle. I feel bad for the people who don’t know about these tricks. I’m sure most people have had a shitty experience at some point in their life. The best thing we can do is learn these stories and hope to educate others so it doesn’t happen to them.

That being said, I am really good about watching for these tricks, but they snuck in a $400 oil change fee on my JT. They told me each oil change was $99 and I could prepay for four of them. I said no thanks. Sticker on mine was $60K and I got it for $53K. Compared to pricing at other dealerships, stock on hand, etc, I was happy.

About 3 months later I came across my paperwork and was looking at it. They snuck in the $400 charge for the oil changes. I went back to cancel it and was told that since it was a CFA contract, I only had 60 days to cancel it. I said, why would you even try to sell it with the Jeep Waves program? Of course they didn’t have an answer. I asked their service department how much they charge for an oil change on a JT and was told $49. I said, huh, no shit? Well you will never get any business from me, my family, my friends, or anyone else who will listen. I hope it was worth the $400 screw job.

12.5% off MSRP is a great deal Or 8% off invoice. $199-$499 DOC fee is fair. If they sell it full of gas â›˝. Drive away happy. I normally get the price in writing, test drive it then bring in a check from my Credit Union to avoid those pesky add-ons. In and out 30 min. ?

Chapman. Ended up ordering a Max Tow sport S last month for 5% below invoice plus any available incentives when it comes in. That does include the tread lightly discount though.

If you want my sales guys email just let me know and I can PM you. He’s been great so far.
