Hi,

I was recently informed by two Jeep dealers that the Mopar Brake Controller kit is not compatible with Gladiators equipped with manual transmission?! Does anyone know is FCA plans to release a version of this kit that’s compatible with 6 speed manual?

Thanks

I like the Curt Echo Bluetooth controller a lot. They sell a hardware button for brakes now, too.

Scroll down to "Please Note" and it says automatics only. It is odd, you can get an after market that works, but MOPAR doesn't offer it. Although you'd have to run your own wiring.

I’m somewhat saddened to see such little support for manual transmissions, perhaps it’s a sign of times?! Thanks for supplying me with the link.

I’ll check this out, I’m certainly in need of a brake controller for my tandem axle trailer. Thanks

Check with Curt and see what they offer.

The Mopar unit should work, but they say it's not compatible, probably due to a Wrangler issue (like the harness for those without the Tow Package that some dealers think they need for the Gladiator).

Is your truck equipped with a Tow Package? If so, there should be a 4-pin connector, up above the OBD port, to connect a brake controller.

Yea, those aftermarket Mopar wiring harnesses were a joke to install, I installed one on my old Sport and my wife’s Rubicon. My Gladiator did come equipped with the factory installed tow package, I’m going to look for the 4 pin connector above the diagnostic port tomorrow and report back. Thanks all!

I think I’m going to try installing the factory Mopar brake controller, I’ve located the gray wiring connector under the steering column panel. I’ll be sure to update everyone if it’s a successful install or a fruitless endeavor! Thanks All

The only issue would be if your truck was manufactured before January 2020. There is a TSB for a flash to the ABS system to correct an issue when the manual brake button is pressed with no trailer attached. It causes the dash to light up with an error because the brake system is not expecting to see voltage on the line. The brake controller still works. The flash just tells it not to pop up an error light. It is needed with any brake controller, not just Mopar, for Gladiators manufactured before January 2020.

Liquor Attorney. So not all bad...
Just curious - I don't do a lot of towing and everything I do tow (16ft runabout on single axle with 4pin, 7x12 enclosed single axle boy scout utility trailer again with a 4 pin) doesn't have any kind of breaks. Thats OK because those are all well below the max tow capacity of a manual transmission. Why do you need a trailer brake controller in your 6MT when you are limited to 4500LBS? Is it for sway control? Extra measure of safety? If so that makes sense...

It depends on where you live. Many states require brakes on any trailer 3000 pounds and over. Some states require them on trailers as light as 1500 pounds. Smaller trailers may come equipped with surge brakes, but larger ones usually have electric brakes that require a controller.
