I look at this as a good thing! Not because I hate the bronco, but I love the gladiator. It being the only midsize convertible truck means it's sales will hopefully be strong enough it continues into another generation.

The bronco pushing competition on the wrangler will mean the wrangler will have to get better as well (more technology like the turn assist, the 35s coming, etc). That will definitely bleed over to the gladiator as they share so much, it only makes sense.

Basically, I think this is good news for the gladiator. Anything I am missing??

Competition is good for the consumer. This may be good for Jeep, but it will slow down development for the Gladiator. We will benefit from the Wrangler updates, but the release will be delayed without the push from the other manufacturers.

What if Jeep now feels no pressure to bleed anything over from Wrangler?

They only dropped the 392 and xtreme Recon when facing a challenge from Bronco. Many have assumed that these would come to the Gladiator.

But has there been anything beyond speculation that either are coming over?

Jeep went to great pains to deny that the JT is just a Wrangler with a bed. They have always tried to emphasize it's truck capabilities. I think Jeep would prefer to differentiate it from Wrangler to the extent that they can.

Look at the Mojave. It's aimed at the desert running crowd. This is largely a truck segment. It's been assumed that Wrangler will get it. [Banned Site] claimed last May that it would be out this year. No official word.

I suspect it will come, but only once the Bronco Warthog/Raptor is revealed.

Jeep's strategy has been to wait and steal Ford's thunder. The 392 Concept was dropped after the Bronco reveal and the 2.7. The xtreme Recon after the Bronco launch, despite the Sasquatch package having been known for some time. Did Jeep roll it out early to beat Ford? Of course not.

It just seems that Jeep would prefer to parcel out these new options and features as needed. Otherwise they may prefer the status quo and making money hand over fist. Without a Bronco pickup, they may not feel like they need to put resources into the JT.

I think the exception may be if Gladiator sales are suffering, and they need to drum up interest.

Hard to be dead when it was never actually alive. It's like proclaiming that you've killed the dragon, the dragon only you saw.

In this case Ford has the F series, the Ranger and now the Maverick, adding a Bronco truck to the mix would only spoil sales of other models. Reach back into the chrysler genetic memory and see why the Comanche died; proto Ram and Dakota were worth more than the even smaller and more niche Comanche. In this case, having 3 ever smaller trucks under the F series would stall sales as buyers are now internally wondering how little truck do they need, really. The Maverick is teeny tiny escape sized, adding a similar but more expensive options with Bronco styling isn't going to help Bronco enough and will hurt Maverick a whole lot. Plus all the added expenses of design, engineering, development etc. They still have many Many MANY acres of trucks waiting for chips. Imagine what the market would do if every car and truck that needs a chip got one over the weekend. The market would spiral in flames.

Bronco will help push Renegade and Wrangler to be better. Pushing Wrangler has the knock on effect of pushing Gladiator. With luck we might even see some more Ram input. Imagine something like Centurion (I know, full sized personal Buick luxobarge) which is like a Ram 2500 with an honest FSJ styled body with factory serious overlanding options like a monster inverter etc.

So Bronco truck being dead means about as much as the pile of dead dragons in my basement.

Its dead for now. Either way a 2024 launch would be dumb. They will have a hard time meeting demand through 2024 so there isn't any reason to add to manufacturing complexity and development costs.

A later release probably makes sense.

Or stated another way. If you can sell more than you can make, there's no sense putting much effort into selling even more of them.

Not good.

Competition makes things better for the end user.
- I'll never buy a Bronco, but that option makes Jeep come out with improvements and better products -
I agree.

I have a feeling it is just "dead for now" until when or if they ever get actual Broncos sorted and delivered in quantity and with decent enough quality.

✌

Exactly this... It is being shelved until they can figure current logistics issues out.

And, count me among those that believe that the introduction of a Bronco truck will put pressure on Jeep to make the Gladiator the better alternative.

If they are basing any Bronco truck on their current Bronco platform like the JL to JT is, then 80% of the engineering is done and already paid for. I see no reason other than what was previously mentioned for them to not dust off a Bronco truck project and put it back on the burner when they get their Bronco sorted.

It took them literally YEARS to get the Bronco to market, and it's STILL a train wreck. Production halted, replacing all the tops, etc. And we haven't even seen the issues that will plague the Bronco over the next 2 to 3 years once they're discovered. Ford has figured out that building an open top 4x4 is NOT an easy thing to do.

Doesn't surprise me one bit that they shelved the Bronco based pickup. They already have 3 sizes of pickups in their lineup. Why add a fourth, knowing that it will also be a disaster like the SUV version of the Bronco?

Looks like a good project for the aftermarket - just design a 1/2 cab like Ford did back in the day also several had them for the Wrangler before we finally got the JT.

It'll be a money printer once they can logistically manage to make one. I think they just recognize we're several years away from them having the capacity to do that. Like maybe even next-gen Bronco.

I have had a lot of Ford trucks and the only one that I would buy would be a 350. A Bronco truck has found its rightful place in the graveyard. Rest In peace.
