Dealer should compensate you; $500. They should file, prime and paint the area on both sides.

As a dealer myself i have seen this numerous times transport either had chains to tight or transport was involved in an accident either way in todays world that is considered frame damage and will hurt the value of resale on your jeep go back to your dealer immediately and make sure you either get a new jeep or get compensated for the damage

Some states have a mandatory cool off period of a few days. Also, my dealer has a 7 day or 150 mile return policy, no questions asked. E.g. my JT was not titled to me until 7 days after I drove it off the lot. So, it was legally brand new for those seven days. I doubt that the OP's truck has been titled yet, especially over a weekend, when all offices that do that type of paper work are closed.

I think that OP's biggest issue is that he may have to wait a while to get a replacement. If he chooses to go that route.

I agree, still a great idea to do a full inspection before leaving the lot.
This would not apply to this vehicle under federal rules this is considered frame damage and as long as you can prove it was there when you purchased the Jeep and you didn't sign a damage waiver you have recourse with the dealer you bought it from

Bad thing is, he saw it and figured, you wouldn't notice it.

No way the OP will get a new Jeep just because they noticed some frame damage after purchase. The Dealer will almost certainly say that this is cosmetic damage that doesn't fall under the factory warranty. The best case would be that the Dealer will perform some half-assed fix, maybe pounding it back into place with a hammer and spraying some paint on it.

Seriously, the OP would be far better off fixing this themselves and avoiding the dealership.

…the chains may have been too loose and he drove like a banshee. Looks like the truck bounced and used his chain as a limiting strap.
My thought exactly. That's the slide-hammer effect, not from too tight, IMO

Yes, I would inform the dealer and see what they might offer, but at the end of the day I would just smooth them out and repaint.... or you can have it repaired if you want ... those horns aren't technically used for anything.
Actually, they are. Try mounting a front receiver. Some winch plate brackets go down to those areas. Granted, that's between the frame horn area, but it's still used for some accessories.

That area is the first place I looked at today when I picked up the new JTRD.

I take it no damage?

Hope the OP gets some resolution, that's terrible

What state are you in? Your profile says ”north west”, but I just checked every NW state and none of them do.
Please re-read my message. I didn't say that my state has a cool-off period. It may or it may not. I said that some states have a cool-off period. My dealership had a 7-day cool-off period.

Feel free to keep checking the rest of the states. You'll find one eventually.

Of course.

The point is that the OP found the issue the day after he bought his JT. Not sure how things work with his dealership. With my dealership, even if nothing was wrong with the JT, I would have been able to return it at that point, no questions asked.

Ahh, slight misread on my part, apologies. That’s unusually generous of your dealership.

I did do more searching and have been unable to find a single state with a cooling off period for new car sales, though a number have varying protections for used car sales.

I wouldn't consider that frame damage. That's just a crash/submarine bar that also serves as a lower mount for the front Skid. It's actually cut off by a lot of people for the installation of certain front bumpers. The fact that it tore like that would lead me to think the actual frame is fine. That right there is the weak point, it failed, likely saving the actual frame from any tweaks.
