I currently use Amsoil 0W-20 oil in my Gladiator. I noticed that whenever I order from their website they always give me an option for what they call a "top off" bottle. Has anyone ever put in 5 1/2 or 6 quarts of oil in one of these engines? If so, is there any danger in doing so or does it just help to add more cooling and oil protection?

Another reason for my question is that my buddy has a 2016 JKU and his engine is the same as mine but it calls for six quarts of oil.

Just want to provide the best maintenance that I can so just curious if adding a half to another quart would be harmful or helpful. Any information would be appreciated.

Maybe “top off” is the wrong phrase to use. Is there even a need to put a name to something to make you buy more? My 21 JTR holds 5L. Not 5 1/2 but if I bought 5 and after 5000 kms or so, I check and see on the dip stick I’m down a 1/4 or so, I’ll wish I bought the extra “top off” bottle.
Check what your book says your engine needs and don’t put in more. More than full doesn’t add extra lubrication.

Just had my first oil and filter change today on Jeeps dime. They used 5 quarts of Pennzoil 0/20. It's a 2023 Glad. Had it changed at 1900 miles, now every 5 k.

The Gladiator takes 5.
Read the book - the owners manual. It will tell you.
You won't ruin it with 5.5 or 6, but it won't do squat as far as help anything at all. It won't add cooling or protection. Go by the book.

NO, your buddy's 2016 isn't the same engine. It's a 3.6, but is gen I while you have the upgrade engine, gen II. Different capacity in the Gladiator, different valve train and more differences. They get called the same, but there's several pages worth of changes made to the 2nd generation.

No need for a "top off bottle" - never heard of such a thing.
Last change went about 7,100 miles and it STILL wasn't on the low part of the dipstick.
I've never had to add oil between oil changes to any Jeep I've owned. (and we've owned quite a few)

I just did an oil change in my '21 Mojave and used Amzoil for the first time and after adding 5 quarts and running it for 30 minutes around town I pulled the dip stick and it was low about 1/3 of a quarter. Never happened before, but I was using a different brand previously. Just thought it was odd.

Makes me wonder if Amzoil fills the container all the way up. I use five quarts of Mobil 1 and it is right on the full mark.

Okay, you had me worried with being a third of a quart low so I went out and checked mine this morning and it is completely full even after running after 2 weeks with amsoil.

@ShadowsPapa is right it won't ruin anything, I am not advocating for you to do as I do. Just follow the book. With that said :
I do put a little extra in mine. I have 94,850miles on mine I have ran Amsoil 0w-20 since the first oil change.
I watch the chango meter and when it gets to 50% I change the filter.
I run tons of dusty dirt roads (oil and Gas industry) super steep hills . 12-30%
If I was on road alot and a sometimer off roader I think I would run 5qt.
In my defense old habits are hard to break. I have ran at least a half quart over in everything I ever owned. Including 2 Cummins diesels.
I may just be lucky 🤷
Again I do not recommend my approach it's just what I do.

Hard to imagine a company like amsoil not giving you a full quart. I'd be shocked.

How fast did you open the hood and check after shutting it down? There's going to be oil still running down from the heads and other areas, settling back into the pan. I'd never run it and then check it instantly. I always wait at least an hour or so to let the oil return from the heads, valve covers and so on.

The oil cooler holds oil for 30min. also so checking immediately after stopping will throw it off for sure.

The various state weights and measurements standards offices would bring a shit storm to Amsoil or any other oil maker if the fluid weight stated was not what is mentioned on the bottle within a red cunt hair tolerance.
