Another question about Jeep truck block heater. :)
I need to find it!
have an appointment and they are going to charge me over $820.00 to install block heater.

After searching, found Jeep Gladiator Forum and I read that most diesel Jeep trucks have installed block heater without plug.

Please help I really don't want to spend 820.00 that I already have.

I live in Big Lake, Alaska (winter temps is 30 above).
Unless we get a cold snap can be -20 below.
Summer gets up to 80 above!

Since you have a 2023 you do not have the block heater. I have a 2022 and only have a brass plug in the block. I purchased the block heater and plug for $120 from Allmoparparts (forum member). You can put it in yourself through the fender liner right where the shock tower is. I have not put mine in yet as I will be doing a full coolant flush in the fall and will put it in then.

Long story short you are getting hosed by that dealer. I would just buy the parts and find a local shop to put it in. They should only charge 1-2 hours labor and even that is probably on the high side. Check out Youtube university and you will see just how simple it is.

There are other posts on here about block heater installation. The 2023 models are supposed to have a brass plug with a hole that the heater module snaps in to.

Contact Benny at @AllMoparParts.com with your VIN number. He may be able to tell you just what you need to order.

I installed one a few weeks ago on my 2023 EcoDiesel. Plugging it in was super easy. The hard part (for me) was figuring out how to run the wiring, partly because I'm OCD. I still need to install a plug receptacle on the front of the bumper.

I totally agree with Biodiesel! There is a well already in your block that excepts the block heater. The cord pushes on the end. It looks like it should have had a plastic nut to secure cord but none was present. I used some larger diameter heat shrink to secure it and attempt to keep moisture out. By far I spent the most time routing the wire. It’s a bit of a reach to fully insert heater in well you may need a push stick or something. If you are a big guy you may want to incorporate someone with smaller hands and arms. I didn’t disassemble anything. I also used one of those receptacles, cut trough bottom plastic valance with a hole saw. There is a harness that routes up between battery and module or fuse block. There is some existing wiring I mostly was able to follow. OEM installed will leave the cord under hood coiled up. Jeep is currently not with me or I would send some pictures. I spent less than 2 hours and went slowly.

Sorry if the pics are dark. Jeep is in the parking garage at work and forgot my keys at home. Also hood locked but added a few pictures to show routing.

Do 21s have the heater?
It has been reported that all of the first year diesels came with a block heater installed. Ordering the block heater got the power cord factory installed. Some relied on the error to continue, didn't order the block heater, and then were upset when it showed up without one. They were expecting to be able to order just the power cord and install it like the first year owners were able to do.

I will on Monday when me, the Jeep and I and all together. My recollection is some point middle of 21 or 22 they changed having them pre installed. For a short time you had to remove a pipe plug and install the heater requiring draining and refilling coolant. Then they started pre installing a well and made a different heater that just pushes into the well. The heater has a pinkish colored rubbery bit with pins to accept the cord. The well is shiny ( at least when new ) and looks like a 3” deep hole maybe 1” in diameter, it has a hex shape around the outside and is threaded in. The latest setup has the heater transferring heat through it and the well body into the coolant. Someone on a forum has already put together all this with pics. You can just google “ adding block heat to jeep ecodiesel “ if you want more information. I’ll tell you it wasn’t a mistake that the heater came in the earlier units. This is an extremely inexpensive part and they were going to install it in every unit and hope to sell it to most. Then to many people figured out that game so they came up with another. The inner wheel liner is akin to black milk jug and can be moved around quite easily. The well is straight in to the side of the engine about the top of the spring tower if I remember. It’s been a year so…
Once locating the well I dropped the heater/cord and maneuvered the heater into the hole from underneath. You have to feel your way around or get a helper to eyeball it. This a level 1 DYI in my opinion. It takes more patience than anything.
It is very cheap to build something the same over and over with less screwups and more and more features are already there and are electrically turned off and they charge you to use it.

Up to mid '21. Mine came with it but I'm in Cali so have no use for it. The early version has the heating element submerge in coolant.
It's easy to see if you have the heater or brass plug. Look right behind the spring perch on the engine block. Just above the frame rail. It will either have a rubber plug covering the connection point or just be a brass plug like in the picture in the above post.
