I see Jeeps are affected, but has any information been released for Gladiator impacts?

I doubt it will impact the Gladiators, I'd be really surprised if they weren't using 4G.

I am pissed because it means my Kindle will now only work over wifi...

It means my cell phone won't work out in the boonies anymore.
This is what really confused me about the shut off. 3G was at least something.

Ah, but AT&T doesn't care about your reception. They want your money, and to reclaim that spectrum. Pure money grab.

22 years since what? Last I checked, it's barely been a decade since major phones primarily used 3G, plus consumer had an expectation of those phones having a lifespan. To make no mention of embedded devices - which is the largest source of people's concerns with 3G being deprecated.

Outside of AT&T wanting to reclaim this spectrum for monetary purposes, can you list another reason they want to deprecate this technology so quickly?

It was announced. Lol a lifespan? What tinfoil hat looney tune expected their cellphone to last a life span? Seriously?

It’s called evolution. Oh no!! Faster cellphone service! Go back to 3G, Verizon, they’re watching me!

Another reason? Uh yeah. Better cellphone service and faster speeds, pretty simple.

The modem in my 2013 Leaf is 3G. It came with a 2G modem, but Nissan offered a $200 upgrade path to keep it working when 2G was turned off. I got a reminder email this morning that 3G is scheduled to shutdown today and this time no upgrade path is available.

By this logic the World Wide Web should have gone away in 2012? Or, perhaps more correctly, the age of a technology has nothing to do with when it should be deprecated.

Did you catch the part about embedded devices? By some estimates millions of embedded devices will cease to work when 3G is shut off. For these devices "faster" isn't as important as range, availability, etc.

While I understand that your personal experiences here are likely limited, please do not conflate your use of technology with how such technology may or may not be used in other areas - like industrial controls, edge computation, and other mobile applications.

Oh, also, who said anything about someone "watching" them? I'm not sure how I triggered you, but I'd recommend a serious evaluation of priorities, and I'm sorry if I offended you.

3G utilization is < 1% of all cellular traffic at this point. In fact, the FCC decides when carriers can shutdown technology generations and 2G, GSM, is going to still be operating even when 3G is gone due to international travel implications and some E911 compliance requirements.

From an operating standpoint, each of the 3 wireless carriers has between 70,000-80,000 cell sites nationally. Carriers have to pay an annual license fee each year, per site, for the technology bands in addition to the operational expenses of paying employees to maintain and monitor these systems. Also, each tower can only support so much weight structurally and "dead" technologies take up space and weight loading that could be used for newer technologies that customers are paying for.
