After years of banging my shins on trailer hitches, I can't bring myself to mount up a hitch skid. If I was going to do one, this one looks great.

I've yet to hit my hitch.. maybe I'll need to do some wheeling with y'all. Moab is on my list for this year though.

I looked at the close-ups and frankly, can't see a problem. OK, so maybe it's cheaper because of the finish, maybe the paint or finish will chip easily or fade or whatever - to me that's a "so what" - it's a skid. My ball mounts get scratched up from use no matter how hard I try to keep them looking decent. It's a truck and the purpose of any skid is to protect more important parts.
If it chipped or faded or peeled, I'd likely strip it, clean it up/prep it and powder coat it myself. No biggy. Sometimes the price differences are simply because the other options are OVER-priced because they can.
There are times price means something, and times it doesn't if someone comes along and says, hey, I can make that just as nice and more cheaply and make enough money to keep me happy.
It's like the work I do - I undercut other prices - because I can and because I'm happy with the money I get. I could charge a lot more - but don't.
Sometimes spending more almost seems like a bragging right - even if the item isn't truly "better" and sometimes for the buyer, the cheaper option is actually more than they truly need.

Because saving a buck here and there is how I was able to afford one to begin with - and saving money on parts means I can get more parts. If the parts are able to do the job, why not (and why does anyone care what someone else does or doesn't spend?
Calm down, I was just pointing out that we pay so much for our Jeeps and trying to save $20 on a untested product seems a little silly. I work two jobs to pay for my junk so I'm not rolling thick either.

I'm fine, nothing to calm down about.
I just think it's silly to diss someone or question why they'd buy something cheaper when it looks very very solid, and in fact, at least as solid as a lot more expensive comparable skids.
Untested? I'd ask - what's to test and what's to fail?

Maybe, perhaps, the other products are grossly over-priced for what they take to make? Send a message with your wallet. That's the problem with stuff sold for Jeeps - take a $20 item, say it's for Jeep and charge 100 for it and Jeep people will eat it up.

Can tell by the pictures it's heavy stuff and it's multi-function (not just a skid)

theres a reason why i can afford to pay for my jeep. Being Frugal with your money is the best way to keep your money.
IMHO…I agree with the majority of this sentiment. As you haunt the forum here, you’ll notice that there are a LOT of guys that ache to buy junk from AMZN.

That said, if guys want to fit out their rigs with gadgetry of any nationality, then they should be able to do so.

I have the body armor skid and my only complaint is that it fits loose in the receiver and rattles a bit..I have stuffed shims in there the best I can but still rattles...otherwise it is a very good strong skid and has saved my hitch on a few occasions

Look at my first comment, hardly a diss. Just a different point of view. ?
Sorry ahead of time if you don't drink.

People are getting these more for protection from a rear end than they are to use as an actual step right?
The departure angle is pretty bad on the Gladiator, so I got it to protect my hitch receiver off-roading. Although, I do wish I had it when I was rear ended...

Looks nice, but I think I'll wait until the OP get's his.
The product doesn't concern me as much as the seller. I see two different "auto parts stores" selling the exact same thing on ebay for the exact same price, and both from the same small town in TX population 14,000. A quick google search shows little about either company, except they both share an office with several other "auto parts stores" and also some different international import companies. That alone isnt enough to stop the race for me, but it does bring out the caution flag.

A lot of sellers on eBay operate the same way. The copy-cat front bumpers - Same thing sold through more than one "Store" and some appear to be in the same location or town. It may be a way to get around ebay fees, who knows, but I've bought a lot of tools and parts from similar types and not had issues. I look to feedback for that.
What I found on the bumper - a couple people had issues with the bumper - damaged parts, scratches or scrapes, and found the seller(s) sent out replacement parts without much question, no real hassle. That's what I look for.

So for me personally, if others say "the seller took care of business", that's all I care about.
Taxes, fees, eBay rules, who knows...... would be interesting, though, to know the whys and hows of it.
