I went with a Warn VR EVO 10S, a 10,000 pounder. Hopefully mine is a little smaller. I do want to use a winch cover if possible, but don't want to have to cut too much of the outer plastic to make that happen. We'll see. Should be fun! :jk:

Chris, I'm stacking fairleads, as well. Great idea.

I'm underway! Cut up my friend's internal metal and plastic pieces. I've got them sitting directly on the LoD winch plate and aligned with the 4 holes on the plate. Looks like outer skin may be able to totally protect the synthetic winch line. I believe I will be able to leave enough of the outer plastic to come up very close to the control box. But...this is just a preliminary mockup. I temporarily installed the 2 internal hawse fareleads for fitment purposes.

Looks like you are off to a great start Joe, looks like your fairlead is behind the plastic cover where it has to be on top of cover right? Where your fairlead is is where I stacked large square washers to space it out, Mav4x4 Chris did it with a fairlead or two on his , that is the very best way to space out. Perhaps the black fairlead is your spacer and you are getting one of the many other options.
No matter what joe, it looks like you are really on a level above the rest of us, perhaps you are an

I went with 2 howzers and the Harbor Freight fairlead mount like Chris, but my howzers are black. I've got enough slot in the fairlead mount to adjust out to the outer skin.

I have a question on the aesthetics of doing this mod. I originally just cut away enough of the top portion of the outer plastic to expose the control box and the clutch lever. I now think that I may 'even up' that cutout toward the passenger side to make it more symmetrical. What do you guys think? Just looking for opinions. Thanks.

I try to be symmetrical where practical, but that's just me. But mine isn't perfectly symmetrical either. One side is cut out further than the other to allow for the backup cable to plug into the solenoid box.

I can't speak for the others, but I used a jigsaw with a fine tooth metal blade, then I went back with a DA sander to smooth anything out.

I’m doing this very soon as my LOD mount arrived today. I’ll be putting in a smittybilt x20 that I’ve had for a few years.

I have a question: did anyone need to use spacers for the bumper?

No spacers necessary in my install, though you can hardly slide a sheet of paper behind my X20 and the grille. It's a snug fit.
