With the push of the federal government to mandate tracking technology to be put in vehicles to "detect driver impairment and disable the vehicle in that scenario. ", I would just bet companies like Apex are certainly lobbying to get these types of laws in place, as it will guarantee a life long market demand for their technology.
No, thank you...I've had my share of tyrannical government throughout my life. I want less of this crap, not more.

Mine came with the Apex and I told them to kick rocks and take it off. I wasn't paying for it. I came in to pay the advertised priced not the advertised price with extra trash thrown in making the price go up.
Ended up with the Apex subscription for 5 yrs, 100k mile warranty at the advertised price.

My dealer also installed a GPS tracker and wired it into an OBD pigtail. It was part of the $3,600 “protection package” which I laughed at and refused to pay.

Seeing as how its permanently powered through the OBD port, I suspect it is a constant parasitic drain on the battery while parked. I unplugged it and its sitting in a shoebox in my garage.

Found it...will have to pull the wiring out later today when I have more time.
It was certainly active, as when I was moving it around, it would flash from green to red.

That's identical to those I have locked up in my cabinet.

Forgiveness is cheaper than permission.
It's better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission.

That's what I do with the wifey anyway.

I plugged it back in to make a better video and the lights were flashing from green to red when it was moved, so it was certainly sending info outbound.

The red wire was spliced into a gray wire on the back side of the OBD-II port and the other wire was grounded to the front of the OBD-II mounting bracket.

Anyone know if we can buy a new OBDII pigtail? I have the Mopar EVTS installed in the same fashion. I'd rather not have a snipped wire close to the plug.

I purchased a used 2021 gladiator from Tomball Jeep. They also added the Apex and made me pay for it if I wanted the jeep. And yes, it was a last-minute detail pointed out while signing paperwork.

I watched a video with the management of Tomball Jeep stating this is a great product and makes them money. This is how I caught the mechanics taking my car out to lunch while supposedly in the shop for repairs.

They also put it on the car I purchased for my daughter. It was a Volkswagen product. So yes, I do believe it’s their system because of the amount of theft at the dealership. However, I don’t think we should be the one to pay for that problem.

Good find, I knew it was connected to the OBD somehow. The next time I brought my car into the shop, they disconnected the OBD so the Apex would not track because I put the virtual fence around the dealership to see where my vehicle was going. Will be disconnecting it today. Now that I know what it looks like. My thanks to everyone.

My wife and I just purchased a used Grand Cherokee from Tomball Ford this afternoon. Classic mistake of not paying close attention to what we were paying for until we got home. the initial sticker was 27K, but we ended up financing 36k. the most expensive ad on? Apex "anti-theft" device. 3K!!!!!!

She's in tears. I don't even know what to say because I was there with her and didn't catch it. we were just ready to get going with the kids acting up.

Not trying to rub salt in the wounds, but car dealers love the exact same situation of the whole family being there and kids being a handful. Throws you off your game and they like to make the kids get enamoured with the potential vehicle purchase and it then become an emotional transaction.

yeah, this morning we woke up with much clearer heads. we could make a list of all the things we did wrong. lessons learned, I guess.

but, after stepping outside we quickly justified it to ourselves that it was totally worth it. This thing is SWEET!!!

I spent the day detailing, Claybar, buffing, polishing, waxing... I'm beat, but it looks amazing and now my wife doesn't feel so bad.

Happy wife.... I don't get murdered in my sleep.

Mine came with LoJack that dealer said couldn't be removed, even though I refused to pay for it.

Luckily their install used a harness to allow it to plug inline so it was a 10 second removal job and everything is back to stock now.

APEX GPS (APEX PROTECT GPS) is owned by Ben Keating.

Ben Keating is also the owner of Keating Auto Group which encompasses 32 dealerships located in texas.

In a lot of the deals at the dealerships he owns, they are not disclosing the line item of APEX GPS and are in fact rolling that cost up into the price of the vehicle.

I believe this is a crime. They refuse to remove the item which is making it "mandatory" another crime.

Ben Keating is profitting twice. Once from the sell of the GPS to the Dealership, and again from the sell of the gps (and vehicle) to the consumer.

What you don’t understand is the dealership is still tracking that vehicle. Being its apex it’s a dealership that’s owned by Keating Auto Group with that being said he’s been the face of gps tracking since 2015. Just imagine this you own the dealership you sell the car, then the extended warranty, then the gap insurance you own them all. On top of that being you signed the contract and purchased all those things you gave up your privacy rights. I’m willing to bet you if you go thru the contract you will find a privacy policy that says the dealerships name and then says they have no affiliates. Now how is that possible when that auto group is made up of 32 dealerships? Also if you go to the apex protect dealers site you will see that even after the purchase they maintain tracking your vehicle for auto theft and maintenance issues. But if you read the apps privacy policy they also use the information from that gps to determine if your warranty claim is valid and or if you’ve abused the vehicle which they told me driving 90 on the tollway in Austin where the speed limits 80-85 is abusive. But not only that they tell you in that same policy that the information is used to determine your trade-in value it’s also sold to insurance companies that’s why my insurance went up without having a speeding ticket in 6 years. They sell and share all your data and you agreed to it by signing the contract welcome to my world.
