Toyo Open Country, at 37x11.5 or the Nitto Trail Grapplers (same width) will work with the stock wheel. There is also the Kenda Klever at 35x10.5.
Did you mean 35x11.5?
There is also the Interco Super Swamper 35x10.5R17.

Discount tire is a pretty solid company and know there crap. I don't think they would risk being sued over mounting something that would result in a failure. They have the guide above for a reason. They refused to mount 13.5 wide tires on my JKU on 17x7.5 wheels for the those reasons. Often manufacturer websites have inaccurate info, including the weight and size of tires.

I have never saw or heard of anyone having a failure from mounting a 12.5 wide tire to a 17 7.5 wheel. That's 28yrs of building them.
Running 37x12.50 on factory wheels with no issues. Got em from Discount Tire. Air down to 12 psi on rocks and at the beach with no issues. Specs Showed 7.5 as approved width.

I ran 315/70/17 KO2's on my stock rims on the JLUR for 3.5 years and 47k miles. I ran a 5 tire rotation and they still have plenty of tread left. I'd say they'd easily go another 20 to 25k before getting to the wear bars. Maybe more. There has been no rubbing, in spite of much off-roading and flexing at the maximum at full turn lock, either way. They did wear more in the middle, but not dramatically more.

I just switched to General Grabber X3's in 35x12.5x17 because I wanted a more aggressive tread. They ride exceptionally well and handle just fine. I haven't been off-road with them yet, but I expect no rubbing. They have a very slightly greater diameter than the KO2's. Maybe 1/4" or so, but much deeper tread. They will undoubtedly wear more in the middle, but again, I expect long life out of them. And the KO2's performed VERY well in all conditions. So far, so good with the X3's in the dry and wet. We'll see in the snow. But I'm betting they'll be great. They do have some siping, which will help.

No sense in arguing over it. If you are not comfortable putting 35's or larger on 7.5" factory rims, then don't do it. But there are enough of them on the road on JK's, JL's, and JT's, that to suggest they are a safety hazard simply has no merit in fact or the real world. Also, while not always wearing as evenly, they still last plenty long, and will likely exceed the tread warranty on most, if not all tires, given proper rotation, alignment and healthy shock absorbers. That said, you can never go wroing playing it conservatively, either.

Btw, I run C-rated tires. Jeeps are really too light duty for E rated tires. The C's ride MUCH better and are much lighter weight. The KO2's and Grabber X3's both weigh about 64lbs.

Hi All - Hoping to get some help. I have a '21 Willys about to add my Teraflex leveling kit. If I wanted to keep the stock 17's and just go to a larger tire, what size would you recommend. Can you run a 33 on the stock 17's, I think they are only 7.5 wide. I was also looking at a 295/70-17. Do I need to add any type of spacer? Anyone got some recommendations? Thanks!
I have 275/7017 on my 2 door wrangler and they fit perfect. I think the 285 would be too large. I got the BFG T/A KO and get a real nice ride.....get the 8ply.....

I have a 21 Willys that I plan to put 255/80r17 cooper discoverer st maxx on when I wear out the stock tires. This gets you to 33" on stock rims. I did this on my 2015 jku with a 2.5" lift and the tires wear great, are quieter (my humble opinion) the only draw back is they are stiff because they are heavy and load rated but for my Willys truck that's not a bad trade off.

I grew up in NW ohio, Toledo jeep and Findlay tires (but I like them because they are some of the best in the world)

Round 2: just had them put on 255/80r17 cooper st maxx.

Ssssooooo much quieter! Wow!

definitely pizza cutters, but I like it looks "factory" to me: note the gladiator is on a 1.5" front and 3/4" rear lift, the tires are about 33" diameter.

the cooper tires have lasted a very long time on the wrangler, loved them on it, now I have put some on the Gladiator.

I just put a set of 255/85R17 M/T Baja Boss ATs on my JK, which has the same wheel size as the JT. I'm very impressed with their ride quality, ease of balance and they have done well off road so far.

For anyone wanting to go with 35s and keep them tucked under the fenders, this tire is a great choice.

Crappy pic, but you get the idea ...

Well, I guess it is up to me to blow up this thread.
Jumped to 37x12:50-17s on the stock Mojave wheels about 4 months ago.

Discount Tire installed them, no problem.

Been out trail beating several times, no issues.

I Am running an AEV 2" with correction brackets. Installed that before the 35s.

I have Eldorado Mud Claw 37/12.5-17's on the oem Rubi rims. Had to use a 1.75" Teraflex wheel spacers for clearance.

I already blew it up months back. Ran 37 12.5 17 kanati trail hogs and Goodyear kevlar's all for almost 37000 miles on stock Wheels before switching wheels. Probably 15,000 of the miles with no wheel spacers and had zero issue and no rubbing. I got 2.5 Readylift with Rubicon takeoffs springs on mine.
