Keep the Jeep and wheel it more. Also, buy a cheap beater sports car. SN95 Mustang GTs are a dime a dozen, cheap to mod, and if they break, parts are cheap.

Outfit it for some real over landing. Wake up the 3.6 with some 4.88s. I am also always looking for ways to keep the love alive for the JT. My last mod is a for sale sign. But not yet. I still need to install my Triangular 4 link rear and my trans is showing signs of pending doom.

No, I wholeheartedly agree...but was (am) on the precipice of trading in for a 1500 Rebel, not a "newer" Jeep (unless it was a 392)

That said, I do have some weird, somewhat emotional attachment to my JTR … Gator color is *chef's kiss*.

As for mods, I mean, I started this thread because I haven't had a burning desire for anything specific (but portals that someone suggested...that would be kind of sick). I went through my Hemi swap phase, wannabe overland phase, and I'm still kind of stuck in my longarm/coilover phase. Other than that, the OEM+ thing I have going on suits my aesthetic taste.

So yes, I need to get the truck back out there.

So, perhaps the answer is – get a new beater daily and enjoy the JTR as is.
OP, I think at the root, you may not yet know what makes you happy when it comes to vehicles. You mentioned going through many “phases”. You’re still searching, but I think both the RAM and 392 are close enough to what you’ve had before that they won’t scratch the itch very long. You’ve done a HEMI swap before and already moved back away from it.

I had a turbocharged M3 before selling it and buying the Porsche. With my wife’s help, I figured out I was looking for more tactility and didn’t care much about horsepower.

You do have an emotional attachment to the JTR, and I wish I could take your paint color off your hands. 🤣 What itch is your JTR scratching? What do you like about it? What kinds of off roading put a huge grin on your face? Rock crawling? Speeding through sand? Camping? Access to backwoods hiking & fishing? Is it even related to off roading? — you said it matches your aesthetic… Maybe what you like is the retro-ish styling as an art form. Maybe you need a classic car to wrench on?

Figure out the itch first, then spend your money on the best scratcher. In the end, it doesn’t even have to be vehicle related. What other activities do you like? Is your JTR an enabler for those? What have you wanted to get into and never done?

For the beater…. I would not buy one. I commuted with my Jeep and my Porsche to load balance. A beater doesn’t scratch any itches other than enabling income. I’ve loved all the vehicles I’ve owned except for that newer M3, an older version of which was my dream car growing up. I really hated that M3… The rest of them would find ways to make me happy almost every day, however small. It was the trading off of scratching two different itches that helped me.

For Stan H and others talking about skipping CA, and without actually getting into politics: despite the fact that we’re moving to Tennessee for the same reasons you probably have in mind, I’d advise not writing off visiting the less populated areas of CA. As Matt from OOA said in a recent video, there are beautiful places to go without any crowds, and wonderful people. Just avoid the usual tourist traps and popular locations. The Sierras really are a treasure, and we all have vehicles that can go anywhere in them.

Go get a Polaris RZR or Can or other - side by side. And a trailer for it that your JTR call pull.

The most fun I have ever had offroad on four wheels was with our RZR turbo. I push the limit because I don't have to drive it home.

Drive it like a race truck and go like hell. If you break it throw it on the trailer and drag it home. Fixing and moding it will give you something to do and spend money on to make it even better.

Tons of fun!

And you won't be abusing your daily driver.

I used to laugh at them. 10 years ago I called them glorified golf carts. Not anymore! They are offroad race vehicles. A flipping blast!
We bought out RZR Turbo new in 2017, it's still going strong and the most fun I have had on 4 wheels in the desert or woods.

it weighs 1/3 of a JT and has 168HP... stupid fast. Fun fast. Just sayin

Seems kind of small minded when the Rubicon Trail our vehicles are named after is in California - along with a ton of other excellent wheeling.
Oh well, someone has to wear the small hats. Might as well be me

meanwhile, in Boone NC, there’s ten of these last time I was there a couple weeks ago.

If they were JT’s with 392’s, instead of JL’s I’d probably already be divorced by now. Although they are happy to do hemi swaps.

So, in lieu of making a horrible financial decision and trading in a paid-off 2020 JTR with 48K miles, I'm searching for ideas to break the boredom of the truck (and appease my dopamine deficit).......

What would you do next? How would you reignite the spark that I once had for my JTR? Every relationship needs to be spiced up a little bit .........
you could Head over to your local Tractor Supply and turn up that spicyness up to 11 with a real party in the rear!

Good thing the Jeeps can be driven for hundreds of miles a day at 85mph, so you can get to somewhere to wheel.
Have you never heard about death wobble? All Jeeps have it. 😁

I would buy a prius and drive it once a week. Then regret ever suggesting the words Bored and Gladiator in the same sentence.
True this - I drove a Lexus ct200h (Lexus version of the Prius) as my daily commuter car for 10 years and bought my '20 JT Overland new during covid when i started working from home. Just about to hit 100k miles in year 5. Very pleased with the quality of this truck. Roof and doors have been -off- for 4 weeks now (I have a garage) and we are still enjoying it every time we drive it.

I was very excited to pimp my ride with a swimming pool but disappointed to see that my JTRD isn’t built for it. The 5.5 foot pool will not fit my 5 foot bed unless the tailgate is down. And with only a 900 pound payload, I could only fill it half full but still no one could get in or I would be over payload! Damn dream crusher!

So, in lieu of making a horrible financial decision and trading in a paid-off 2020 JTR with 48K miles, I'm searching for ideas to break the boredom of the truck (and appease my dopamine deficit). I did the basic/usual upgrades in the first year of ownership, five years ago (e.g., Falcon 3.3, Method wheels, 37"s, Clayton lift, RPM 2.5 ton steering...blah blah).

What would you do next? How would you reignite the spark that I once had for my JTR? Every relationship needs to be spiced up a little bit (and don't say Hemi swap...I've been down that road).

I wouldn't necessarily say I "wheel" this truck as much as I used to; however, I played with the idea of focusing more on a Ranger Raptor "competitor." This is now my daily driver after I had to sell my beloved Kei truck (thanks, Ohio).

I went from an X5M with almost 600hp to the JT …. No regrets though.
I went from tuned 650ft lbs X5 35d to a 3rd gen Tacoma... I very much regretted that decision, still do, which is why I'm now back into a diesel. It took 10 months of that gutless and atrocious engine/transmission combo in the Taco and I just couldn't take it anymore.

I know a lot of people have problems with BMW, but all of mine over the years had been great vehicles with zero issues.
