The Max bilt are 5" lights. Don't think I can make them fit... But I didn't realize they can be surface lights with no depth. That might allow me to move them closer to the tail gate and make everything fit.
Maxbilts look a lot like the ORO

What about recessing or Frenching the lights?

Any way to incorporate the blind spot monitoring system?

I already have a set of Oracle tail lights, thank thank you for the offer... I haven't even thought about the blind spot sensors ...... Let me look into that and see what I can come up with. Thank you again!!!!
No problem I'm interested in what you come up with.

These look killer! If something like existed for the JT I would buy them!
Let genright know we want these. Preferably a full rear corner guard with the light frenched in.

They basically said they will do something eventually but they have other projects with more demand.

Figured I would share my progress, and would love criticism, likes, ideas, other style lights, let me have it all......

Keep in mind this is still in prototype stage. Still have to add side markers. Make a finer 3d printed housing. Current housing is ruff draft quality for fast print times .

I might be able to make the squares work... But we really are mainly limited to a max of 4 inches. The squares are 4.5 inches... But I may be able to fit them.

The first link, lights are 5 inches. There is no way to make them work unfortunately.
That's too bad, I've been thinking along the lines of making something using the Grote 54702 which includes the reverse light, but I hadn't gotten around to measuring anything.

I guess 6" long won't fit? They are only 2.25 wide, so it might be possible..

Yes these lights work fine because of the width. These lights are what the combat off-road gunner lights come stock with... So yes these will work with the oval trailer light version no problem.

The 3d printed plastic will be fine in the sun... I will be using plastic that the sun doesn't degrade. Probably abs plastic...

I'm more worried about them cracking from bumps and that sort of thing... I have a few months of testing for sure once I finish...

Technically bumps shouldn't hurt them, they're sturdy, but more worried about body twist from people off-roading.... Not sure what stresses the tail lights will endure
I would definitely consider ASA. It's very heat stable, doesn't really absorb moisture and is quite impact resistant. It does require higher bed temps and an enclosure to print well, but nothing too crazy.

I'm currently working on making a Mojave cowl with the 4xe door using ASA and it's a pretty impressive material.

Right now I'm trying out pvb. Main reason I will use either it or abs is so I can smooth it with (pvb) alcohol or (abs) acetone... This will be a lot quicker than sanding and painting.

I will have a new printer at my house Monday that is equivalent to a bamboo labs x1 carbon

Nice, I haven't had a chance to use that stuff, but it does sound good.

I've been eying an x1 carbon myself, what printer did you go with?

Well done loving this!! I will second the idea of frenching the lights a bit instead of them sticking out. I like most of the options presented so far.

Another thought if led lights in this design even exist or could be produced…something like the vintage J10s?

Cheers
